There used to be a time when boxing was all over TV for free. In Golovkin's case, his team thinks he is the "next big thing" so naturally we should have to pay to see him fight.

I don't know if it's a mistake or not - when you start appearing on PPV, you develop a reputation and a certain glamour. On top of that, free TV/HBO fighters will never make as much as PPV fighters, even for low budget PPVs. Even Crawford's 70k PPV event generated him the highest purse to date.
However as a long term trend, Mikey may be right. PPV model is dying. Or at the very least, requiring to have HBO/Showtime in order to get the event is definitely a dying practice due to so many cord cutters. Networks need to make PPV events both cheaper and easier accessible online. If the price of the PPV was ~$20-40, all in HD, and you could easily stream it off HBOPPV.com or something, they would see the number of buys increase significantly.Comment

Floyd vs Manny kind of ruined PPV they built this fight up for what 6 years only to be a dud for $100. If Floyd and Manny PPV would have been $50 people would have got over of this crap fight and continued to buy PPV at a reasonable price but the average person doesn't want to be duped once again. Why do you think Floyd vs Berto didn't sell to much. Back in the day Mike Tyson would sell PPV reguardless of whom he was fightingComment

I enjoy and respect Mikey as a fighter but he wasted almost 3 years of his prime because he thinks he's smarter than he is. He should stay away from commenting on the business side of things for other fighters. If he had any common sense, he would understand that the only reason both of Golovkin's fights were on ppv was because HBO doesn't have the budget to afford the purses that his (respectable) opponents want in order to get in the ring with GGG.
These were not events specifically designed to be ppvs.Comment

PPV and fights in Premium channels like HBO and Showtime is dead. Put them back of free TV with comercials. ESPN, Fox Sports, and big Channels for bigger audience, FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC. PPV is also dead for MMA and Wrestling.Comment
