The key statement in this thread, is something i've recently posted regarding how low expectations cause blurred vision:

"Going in you don’t expect what you get so anything outside of that you think is a victory."

What Jacobs did win is the huge respect for taking Golovkin to a place he hasn't been before (or at least for many years). Also he banished talk of his 'glass chin'.

He exceeded the expectations most people had before the fight, so 'won' in many respects, except he didn't actually win the fight as the fight is judged on boxing rules, not on exceeding prior expectations.

        Doesn't stop the arguments though.
True...Jacobs supporters blindly claim he won but can't produce any evidence to back it up...because there isn't any.

Did he drop Golovkin? Nope, he got dropped.
Did he hurt Golovkin once? Nope, Golovkin marched forward all night and actually wobbled him numerous times. Both fighters faces after the fight tell the real story.
Did he outpunch/outland Golovkin overall? Nope, Golovkin did according to CompuBox.
Did he outpunch/outland Golovkin in most rounds? Nope, Golovkin outpunched/outlanded him in 9/12 rounds with 1 round tied.
Did he control the fight with his jab? Nope, Golovkin landed over 3 times as many POWER jabs snapping Jacobs' head back all night long.

The only stat Jacob exceeded Golovkin in was power punches landed. However, this was just 18 over the whole fight so is negligible. Also, he landed those power shots at a significantly lower connect percentage to GGG (39% to 49%) and as HBO stats for decades show the fighter who lands half his power punches always wins the fight which is exactly what happened.

This is what most of the neutral pundits say. Jacobs nullified much of Golovkin's attack, but Golovkin also stifled Jacobs' output too - which is why some stated disappointment that the fight didn't have more fireworks.

If Danny let his hands go more it would have led to more exchanges, which is probably why he didn't. So the statement is true if it has the caveat '...and didn't get caught' attached.

                News Alert!

Guy paid to promote Golden Boy fighters promotes golden boy fighters! LOL

Here's the same guy comparing Golovkin Jacobs to Golovkin Lemieux, "We saw that Golovkin pressured Danny, he went after him, or he tried to, and Danny is a puncher. With Lemieux he didn’t do that, he was very cautious. "

Golden Boy promotes Lemieux, so in that context, suddenly Golovkin went after Jacobs but had more respect for Lemieux.

Tbh I don't think Jacobs did any of the things you talked about. He refused the IBF second day & HBO fight night weigh in because he weighed 15-20lbs more than GGG to absorb his punches yet still got dropped/wobbled numerous times. GGGs trainer says GGG KO's anybody from 154-168lbs but that doesn't include Light Heavyweights!

After getting dropped/wobbled, Jacobs mostly fought backwards and it was his superior hand/foot speed, ability to switch stances and significant height/reach advantages which helped him to simply SURVIVE the fight. Surviving the fight should not be considered impressive nor anywhere remotely close to taking the belts from the UNIFIED CHAMPION. Had Jacobs fought in the pocket more often utilising his own 90% KO ratio and gone out on his shield he would've got more respect. But he didn't because his punches had zero effect on GGG (despite weighing 15lbs+ more) yet GGGs troubled him which is why he fought backwards.

You could also argue that he ducked GGG for a year or two and waited for him to slow down and despite being 5 years younger still couldn't do any damage.

The only thing I give Jacobs credit for his coming back from cancer and SURVIVING the fight.
