was thinking more about this and the recent trend on here to try and score fights for fighters on the backfoot and for the spoilers.
i hear the same tired lines every time 'he was too slick' 'he made him miss' 'he frustrated him' yeah that all may be true but dont you actually have to land your own shots in order to win a fight?
Seems to be that instead of the defensive fighter getting penalised for being defensive, they actually seem to get the benefit of the doubt by many unless a fight is very one sided...
we are starting to get to a point in the sport where you get more credit for being defensive and not letting your hands go, than you do if you are the one trying to press the action.
My own view on it when scoring a fight is that if you are going to fight defensively/spoil then you sure as **** better make sure you are clearly landing the better shots round on round.
I also dont understand why connect% matters so much either, surely it doesnt matter if you miss more shots as long as you are actually landing more punches in total, seems strange why connect rate has such an emphasis placed on it.
I think people are starting to lose track of the fact that boxing is a combat sport, its not tag and run, if it was we may aswell have headguards back on. its a fight with two guys looking to do damage, i find it strange how someone can really be 'the loser' when they dont have a mark on them and have barely been hit with anything of note and could have gone another few rounds no problem.
I dont know why this is, is it some form of boxing hipsterism? Where you think you are seeing 'the sweet science' when its not actually existing?
how much emphasis do you put on being slick?
