Would American be the worst in the world if RUNNING was penalized in scoring?

Like if in the scoring criteria they sayd running was not good and it's a fight not a whos the biggest coward competition

scored it down for being cowardly and scored agression and damaging shots as the top criteria?

I think american would be the worst in world if they did this

Smart movement is cool, that's why there's a ring so one can utilize it, but while I do agree that outright running and/or hopping on a bike and riding that f**ker around the ring like it's a damn ten speed is gay as f**k -- I don't know it it should be penalized per se...however I do think the use of holding/clinching as a defensive strategy should be harshly penalized.

Like how motherf**ers will jump on you and tie you up immediately once his opponent gets in range... we see that all the f**king time, and we're lucky if the ref even mentions it, let alone dock a point for it.

That **** needs to be abolished. Jumping on a guy and holding onto him so the ref can separate y'all so you can reset is NOT defense. What it is, is a loophole for defense.

Edit: Natural holding and clinching happens. That's okay. And if you're hurt, then yeah, that's okay too. But when you immediately jump on a guy to tie him up as soon as he gets within range...no.

Probably. Americans call it being slick. Lomachenko is slick. Not those runners who put out 5 punches each round

There were large sections of Dirrell vs Froch when Dirrell was absolutely just refusing to engage. Even though he did also land more telling punches.

David Haye actually done the same vs Valuev.

It is so subjective though that I doubt there would be a universal agreement in what 'running' is. What would you do say if a fighter didn't throw a punch or feint for 30 seconds? You could take a point but wouldn't be practical because there are scenarios when that might actually be the right thing to do. A hurt fighter is within his rights to stick to his opponent like a leech to give himself a chance to come back and keep himself safe. He's not just gonna sleep walk into a brutal knockout.

Maybe there should be more warnings when a fighter hasn't been hit with anything but is still refusing to engage properly. I dunno. Tough one.

I reckon Cubans might be worse off than Americans under that system...
