GTFO, man. Mayweather is the only fighter in history whose opponents get blamed when he stinks the joint out. They're blamed for not making his ass less boring.

Sure, Pac was disappointing and should have sold out but any who understands boxing that by then, Mayweather had developed an incredibly safety-first style that played a numbers game with the judging. Floyd is absolutely to blame for making that fight hideous. This was the fight of the century, the one where Mayweather's fans predicted he would lay down a beating on Pac to end all the nonsense he suffered. And what happened? He fought mostly scared against a small, injured fighter

Going back to the original question, the low PPV numbers are:

    - Mayweather-Pac

    - Streaming. Everyone is getting sophisticated at this now.

    - Promoters and fighters not selling themselves better to the public. Look how British boxing is thriving. Joshua is the most mind-numblingly boring boxing personality in the world but all his fights are events.

Pac-Floyd killed this sport. Not even a MMA/Boxing freakshow can save it.

It's still doing well in the UK. Stateside the sport is DEAD

When you have American STARS you can create McGregor and others from different Countries. But with boxing they're trying to REPLACE American Boxing with Foreigners and that will NEVER EVER WORK in America.
Oh yea for sure. HBO has gone fairly heavily into foreign guys with GGG, Kovalev & Gonzalez being among their most pushed fighters these days. None of which I could ever see being an A side 1M+ PPV buy caliber stars. And I'd even argue the Latino thing might be thinking overly optimistic since when you look at the top 5 boxing stars since PPV has been around its 3 American black guys, 1 Latino & a charismatic Filipino lol.

Another random PPV fact, there have only been 2 non-Latino/non-American PPV fighters who've had 2M+ PPV buys in their entire boxing career. Obviously Manny is one. Lennox Lewis is the other although 70% of his PPV buy numbers are from 3 fights with Holyfield & Tyson. So for sure its harder to be a foreign born US PPV star.

          Yes. Blame May/Pac. Quite original.

The numbers are low because there aren't any superstars. End of.

its not like tito vs dlh back in the day and you shouldnt expect similar numbers.

Don't let your emotionalism cloud your thinking. The economic climate was different back then at the time of the fights you mentioned. The PPVs also didn't cost $100.

I find it interesting that you speak of "emotionalism" (huh?) when your post has nothing to do with what I was referring to and is pretty basic.

There isn't reallllly a type of fight that is or isn't PPV worthy despite that being many fight fans spin. The reality is that any fight where the revenue from buys surpasses the expenses of the fight is a PPV fight that makes sense to the guy putting it on.

Not any except for one costed $100 that I'm aware of, but it is a relevant topic that revenue is the vastly superior figure with ppv sh_t, but it's just so hidden a number for most fights that people tend to stick to buys which are the more openly discussed numbers.
