was hagler ever ducked as hard as ggg is ducked? nope. if ducking was illegal ggg would already have defeated sturm, martinez, froch, chavez, cotto, canelo, eubanks, saunders etc etc list goes on
hagler was never feared or avoided. duran after their fight called him a b*tch and scared. how many people have called ggg a b*tch after sharing a ring with him?? none. even jacobs who claims to not feel his power is currently sitting at home with both eyes closed from jabs!!
the proof is in the pudding. ggg is better than hagler. thing is fighters from the 80's get put on these pedestals. and hagler retired and turned into a whiny b*tch because leonard got the decision. instead of asking for a rematch he goes away like a punk.
ggg would maul hagler period. hagler will not outweigh ggg by 20 lbs like jacobs did so hes not withstanding all that punishment.
How long have you watched Boxing? Casual newbie fans are fixated by this hopping weight class cherry picking stuff. If you can make the weight and there's guys in your division still, why the need to always move up?
Hearns postponed a fight in 1982 with Hagler, made him wait until 1985. Leonard did something similar. Just because you don't know that era and started watching Boxing recently doesn't mean your an authority on it. Sure, GGG has been avoided, but Hagler had it very hard just to get a title shot and was very avoided. I'd list the name of guys that avoided him and some that were forced into fighting him but you wouldn't know or care anyway. GGG got an interim title and then started knocking fools out.Last edited by chrisJS; 03-28-2017, 12:03 PM.

Also can people stop referring to Duran as a LW when Hagler fought him, he didn't just jump from 135 to fight Hagler at 160. And he didn't return to LW in his very next fight.

first off, hagler isn't overrated...a guy who is bonafide top 5 atg @ 160, some have him #1, could never be overrated...160 in haglers era is widely considered one of the the deepest, so for hagler to ascend to undisputed @ 160 makes him official..., and you don't have a ton of threads questioning hagler ducking anybody...
hagler actually did have a rematch clause in the srl fight, to which srl welched on...hagler hung around for a minute and tried to get sugar to honor it, but srl retired, then unretired when hagler decided to move on...
plus, you fail to realize that in hagler's day, the weigh in's were same day, so ggg wouldn't be too much heavier than hagler using 80's rules, and with today's weigh in rules, i could see hagler coming into the ring @ 167 and being just as effective as ggg who averages around 170...not that it would make much of a difference anyway, because ggg style is right up hagler's alley...
..and as far as duran calling hagler a *****, you failed to mention that hagler looked at him, laughed, and waived him off, basically telling him that he wasn't s**t...

Whether Golovkin would win lose or draw against Hagler we'll never know but saying Hagler is over rated is crazy. The guy had a great chin, excellent hand speed and power. He could fight right handed or left handed and switch seamlessly between them. He could fight inside and outside. He had these beautiful short little punches that he used in close to bust up his opponent. As someone else pointed out there was no super middleweight division then. He fought who was available and would generate revenue.
The only thing that irks me is he beat Hearns and Duran two of my favorite fighters. Hagler deserves nothing but respect.Last edited by TonyGe; 03-28-2017, 01:08 PM.

fighters of today can't compare to fighters of yesterday. i think boxing is pretty much the only sport where fighters get worse with time, according to fans.
That being said, this would be a great fight if it ever had the possibility of taking place. I think Hagler is one of the best if not the best middleweight of all time. he had a few losses earlier in his career and one at the end but he was a beast and would be tough fighter for any middleweight to overcome.
Lets ask ourselves honestly, as far as Hagler and GGG go, in their primes can anyone who is equivalent to their size or smaller really beat them? I don't think so.
I don't know who wins between hagler vs. GGG and comparing resume's isn't really fair to determine who is better because GGG didn't have the luxury of the SRL, Duran, Thomas Hearn type of opportunities and only now there are a few decent fighters making their way into the division, like Canelo and Charlo who aren't proven at middleweight but are proven at 154. Too bad that GGG is likely going to get further and further removed from his physical prime with each fight, after all he is turning 35 next month.

If his power is as potent as the media made it out to be, surely he should have hurt Jacobs more often, let alone a domestic level fighter almost going the full 12 like Murray, hit shot kassim ouma with everything but the kitchen sink for 10+ rounds but he stops an all time great like Hagler? yea right
