But he can KO Ward and Kovalev right so why make a big deal about Jacobs Weight?

Gennady ran right thru a LHW like it was nothing and took his best shots too. Unbelievable.

Go back with same day weighins you would have middleweights coming into the ring at 155lb

People forget that a weight division consists of all the weight ranges between the division limit, and the division limit below it.

6lb between jr middle, and middle.

It use to be the 13lb between welter and middle.

It made jumping weight classes an actual impressive feat. I mean Henry Armstrong holds the record for the must welterweight title defenses in history, and he come into the ring at around 135-137lb for most of his title defenses.

Its ridiculous that its turned into fighters cutting as much weight as possible and dehydrating themselves only to come in 2-3 weight classes heavier.

Ive always thought the best solution would be hydrated weigh-ins, where fighters are supervised and forced to rehydrate being weighed every hour until they are no longer putting on weight.

Since the argument between same day weigh-ins, and day before was originally about fighter safety with it being assumed more time to rehydrate would be safer for the fighters.

Wouldn't the best solutions be to just make sure the fighters are hydrated before weighing in?

Then guys would have to either fight in their weight class, or maintain a committed diet to stay in the weight class they wish to campaign at, like Hopkins did.

But weight wasn't an issue when lil g dragged a WELTERWEIGHT up 13 pounds. No. That's not an issue.

6lbs (AFTER the official weigh-in) = MAJOR PROBLEM
TWO WEIGHT CLASSES = No big deal

            Thanks trashcan fan

            This and more of it.

This is the way the sport is set up. People must make weight the day before the fight point blank. Cutting weight is no joke guys sacrifice nutrition so it hurts as much as it helps. To just think they gain an advantage by balooning over night is rediculous. One of the biggest examples of this was De la Hoya vs Pacman. De La Hoya spent so much time cutting that the night of the fight it did not matter he could not get his body back.

It doesn't make sense for a middleweight to be 155lb on weigh in. Why do you think tha twould be the case? Just so he can rehydrate in the next 12 hours to 165lb? lol

I do agree with your overall point about safety. Make sure the fighter is hydrated before the weigh in and after it. Being on the same day with a 12 hour gap between weigh in and fight time is perfect. If a fighter isn't rehydrated in 12 hours then there's something wrong. Maybe put in a clause where fighters can be up to 5lb over by fight time.

Ultimately, I want to raise another issue. Theres a lot of talk about the medical issues and safety of a fighter who is not hydrated enough but complete neglaect of the problems surrounding too much water intake and the damage it can have on ones brain. Rehydration weight isnt exactly healthy weight.

Ward fighting at 168, weighed 176 against Dawson.

Golovkin fought against a super mw on saturday.

Will this sport ever do something about weight cheaters?

I think all organizations should adopt the next morning weigh in, like in the IBF.
Once all of them are using it, it will be easier to move it into the afternoon or just before the fight. Cheaters will think twice before cutting 20 pounds to make weight. They would have to fight half drained, weakened, or fight on the division they belong.
You should be happy that Golovkin beat a light heavyweight.
