Derevyanchenko was also short yesterday comparing to his opponent. Russell has significant reach and height advantage, also he was not much slower, so Sergey did not enjoy noticeable advantage in the reflexes department. It was not easy to negate his jab, and in addition Russell was a big middleweight with legitimate power. But if you have skills, this disadvantages can be negated, which was demonstrated. Even though Derevyanchenko is 10 fights prospect, while Canelo headlines the ranking, we never saw anything like that from Canelo. It still remains to be seen if he can work through significant physical disadvantage. And no, Chavez hardly qualifies as a test – slow and no punching power. The differences in reflexes will be apparent.
Am I crazy or some guy is suggesting that Derevyanchenko is a better fighter than Canelo because I swear that's what it looks to me.

Legitimate answer to why some people think boxing fans are the worst in any sport.

Who has beat Chavez jr? two bums, Sergio Martinez and Fonfara, that's how bad Chavez is if bums like those were the only ones to beat him.

Canelo weights more than the average middleweight.

He IS a middle weight cutting 20 pounds for the weigh in.

The fact that he is unproven against MW opposition, is a different story. Actually what you say is that we don't know if he's good enough in the MW division.

He would still be competitive in a weak middleweight division, but I'm just not projecting a lot from him at the weight.
Yea, I always thought he seemed to short for MW and that he should just lean the fk up to stay at 154. Thickening up even more will hurt his mobility and speed, IMO. For that reason, I feel he should catch-weight Golovkin, but stay at JMW otherwise. We'll see how he looks in this next fight. I think he'll be real stocky.

It was the trainer's comment, not mine. Read the article.

By catchweighting Golovkin you mean taking an unfair advantage?

Latest known Canelo weights fight night are 171, 172, 174, and he's not getting any smaller. That's more than what Golovkin weights on average, which is 170 or 171. So, are you saying Canelo needs Golovkin to be even lighter in order to make a even fight?

You were so busy trying to read between the lines that neglected to read what was actually written. SD is a prospect, judging by his # of fights. He is not supposed to be better than #1 ranked fighter.
But he is not afraid to put his unbeaten status on the line against equally dangerous opponent with significant size advantage.
Canelo deserves some of his high ranking, he is a good fighter. But at the same time he is a "project" created to make money and as such was very carefully matched. He usually fights with significant weight advantage. The way he created 155-pound division to avoid dangerous fights was shameful... But since he is a cash cow, GBP can hire a lot of message board posters, who will defend his action and they don't care how irrational they sound. After all they were not paid to be objective.
For impartial boxing fans Canelo's reputation is stained by his refusal to fight GGG. He preferred to vacate the title. There is no way around this. And now GBP does all in their power to delay the fight in hopes that GGG will show his age. Also not a bravest move...
Back to my original point - I don't think that at this point Derevyanchenko is ready to beat such experienced fighter as Canelo. But he is on the fast track, because he is not avoiding dangerous fights.

You're crazy...cuz that's not what the guy was doing in his post. It was an analogy to short fighters can have success.

I believe myself to be impartial and don't look at Alvarez negatively due to the Golovkin fight not happening. Why? He hasn't beaten a real middleweight yet so what makes me think he can beat the best one. I would be intrigued at a catchweight, but not at 160. Also, Alvarez is the epitome of a prize fighter. He fights for cash...not for legacy...regardless of what he says. It seems to me that Alvarez is the easy path to cementing Golovkin's big reputation amongst fans, as such those that want his reputation to be stronger really want the fight.

Canelo's experience with the best of the best in the 154 ****s the 160 division right now, funny to see that's the fight, fans, fighters, trainers, media and specialists want to see but you think is not competitive, well, we'll see.............................
Seems like you're making a huge assumption that the energy gained from not draining 6 pounds will help him over come height and reach disadvantages by top MWs. He is a counter puncher without gifted feet or reflexes. This makes his success at MW an unknown.

I call a spade a spade, I've never been a fan of vacating titles, I said it on other posts, Canelo vacating was a coward move, and delaying the fight more damaged his image, i never supported that ****, but say what you want Canelo is a top fighter.

About you point, and I quote "He is not avoiding dangerous fights"........................Bro, let's just be real, Derevyanchenko best win is a 43 year old Sam Soliman and the dude he just fought was a prospect who nobody knows.

Just be real pls, Canelo fought Erislandy Lara and that dude is a great boxer, not as masterful as Rigo but he's as tricky as they come. Did he clearly beat Lara? hell no I had Lara winning by 2 rounds but it was not a dominance from Lara either.

Dude fought Trout when he was undefeated and beat him far and square, beat a Cotto who was coming from Knocking out MW's, Angulo was no sluch, Kirkland can be glass chin but the brother always brings it, Smith was an undefeated Champ, Khan.......................well I can't say something positive about draggin up a WW.

Canelo has faced dangerous fights and that's a FACT, thanks.

Is Derevyanchenko solid? until he faces a top guy We don't know, to be honest I think he's a Khytrov, he's gonna lose soon but I might be wrong.
