"The Baby-Faced Assassin" Marco Antonio Barrera vs. "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather

Fall 2002. Floyd Mayweather had moved to Lightweight in June and won a controversial decision over Jose Luis Castillo. Marco Antonio Barrera had just avenged the robbery in his first fight with Erik Morales, at Featherweight. Floyd held the WBC title at 135, Barrera the WBC title at 126.

"The Baby-Faced Assassin" Marco Antonio Barrera, 55-3 (39 KO) vs. "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, 28-0 (20 KO). Who would have won, and how? Best names on Barrera's resume at that stage were Erik Morales and Prince Naseem. Best names on Floyd's were Diego Corrales and Genaro Hernandez.

Mayweather 8-4 to 9-3 type of match up. Mostly Barrera would be a bit competetive but he would be beaten clearly and decisively. Its because Mayweather was the bigger man and is the bigger puncher and has more skills than Barrera. But Erik Morales in the other hand is an another story. He's 5'8 1/2 against Mayweather, so he will be in striking distance and is within is range in height to keep Floyd off him, and Erik's ability to adjust to any situation be it a fire fight or a chessmatch would be a factor too. And They sparred one time and Morales whooped his ass.

If you really want a good idea as to how this fight would play out, just watch Barrera vs Junior Jones. PPF beats the living daylights out of Barrera on his way to a late stoppage by the ref. MAB had no answer for Jones. Floyd was twice as fast, just as long, but his boxing IQ was far superior to Jones's. This IMO would have been a Gatti like performance for PPF

I'm willing to bet that just about every fighter will tell you sparring and a real boxing match are not the same. As talented as Morales was, I'd still pick FMJ to win the actual fight.

It's a good fight between two great fighters. Mayweather would win a fairly close UD in my opinion.

Had he moved up around 2001-2002 and fought floyd at 130, he'd have got destroyed

even in a mythical type fight....best version of him at 130 vs floyd, he'd get dominated

He couldnt get away from a quick lead right and would get outfoxed trying to outbox floyd, he'd get busted up coming forward

            Mayweather 9th round stoppage

sparring doesnt count. one fighter could be in fight shape, the other not, working on things, etc.

I don't think Barrera has the tools to beat Floyd.

He's giving away too much reach, and floyd is too smart and too fast, too much everything. If I had to call it, it would be a clear UD for Floyd.
