Eventually boxing will be banned as people will stop allowing a sport that results in health damage and death. Or, hopefully, change it in a way that will make the sport safer (like virtual boxing where each boxer boxes a hologram and we see the two boxers on the screen). But until then... boxers know the risks, and so do their family members.

picking ggg over jacobs is NOT hating.all the odds are heavily favoring ggg to beat jacobs and for good reason, he is on another level compared to him.

Thats for the people who laugh when a fighter gets kod. These guys have family friends kids etc. Its good to cheer fot the winner but to sh#t on the guy getting kod is something else. Most of these guys laughing never got into a fight in their life or are p#ssies.

Anyways glad to know hes ok...

No, KO's are part of the sport but no one I know wants to see a brutal KO where serious damage occurs or a KO where a referee should have stopped the fight long before. It is one thing to admire a competitive sport where injuries like any sport are a part of the game. It is another to enjoy a brutal KO where the fighter is not conscious for some time or watching a guy sustain far more punishment and be incapable of defending himself in a fight that has gone too long - that is sadistic!

                  You're missing a point.

Deaths in all the other sports are a by-product. Number of deaths can be decreased with improved safety and technological advances.

Deaths in boxing are a direct consequence of the sport itself. If the aim of the fight is to render a fighter unable to stand up for 10 seconds by punching him in the head, essentially damaging the other fighter, then there's only so much you can do to make the sport safer.

I can imagine. I legit thought he was dead for a minute there. Those ko's are rare.

Oh, I think it's not quite so black and white.

No-one you know wants to see a brutal KO? How about commentators shouting "he was out before he hit the canvas"? They don't usually say that with a sombre tone, full of concern for the fallen boxer, do they?

Boxers saying early stoppage robbed them of a well deserved KO? Crowd booing for what they consider a premature stoppage?

Also, there's no clean line between 'watching a guy sustain far more punishment' and robbing a guy of a chance. Just watch Gatti-Ward or Corrales-Castillo I. Or take Magomed Abdusalamov fight - no-one thought the fight should have been stopped. There have been a few fights where a fighter would lose a decision then collapse in the dressing room, not to come back again.

I went through some soul searching to make peace with boxing myself - I watch boxing because I think it does more good than bad overall. But that's going to change as life gets better, and there will be a day when boxing won't provide a net benefit to humanity. So enjoy boxing while you can - but be honest about it. We are watching people getting hurt and we like it. Sure, we don't wish permanent damage on anyone - it's just that there's no way around it...
