You mean, they skipped negotiations with Duva once before, went straight to purse bid which killed the fight. So why not try the same tactics again, right? That's not how to do business if your guy is such bad risk/reward. See how a good promoter like Loeffler handles it, you gotta overpay for credible opponents

The purse bid didn't kill the fight. Main Events pulled out of the purse bid. How did the purse bid kill the fight?

It killed it cause Kovalev couldn't fight off HBO, and the news of Haymon hedge fund money had just come out

Kovalev wasn't signed to HBO at the time.

He had an exclusive HBO deal on the table. Would it have been there after a one off on Showtime, dunno. I'm sure there were concerns else the purse bid is a no brainer.

So he was free to fight on any network, right?

Yeah but the likes of Kovalev or Main events don't pass on an HBO exclusive deal. Stevenson's been welcome to fight Kovalev on HBO this whole time but he's into lesser ratings and money

So Main Events killed the fight because they wanted an exclusive HBO deal for Kovalev. But at the time of the purse bid Kovalev was free to fight on any network. So the purse bid didn't kill the fight, Main Events did. I have no idea why they would petition the WBC to make Kovalev/Pascal an eliminator knowing Kovalev deal with HBO would be up after that fight and knowing there was a very good possibility it would go to purse bid. She also knew HBO wouldn't put up an extra 100k to pay for the first Kovalev/Stevenson fight so why did she think they'd pay for this one? But that's Duva for you. She's always outsmarting herself.

Not just main events, I bet Kovalev appreciated the chance they gave him. But Gym could have tried negotiating at any time, you know? A purse bid is a last resort, if you're dealing in good faith. And I'm sure Duva felt better about the bid before Haymon 500m war chest was made public.

Lol at that story of Chickenson ruining his career over $100k

Barrera has fought on HBO and he's ranked top 5 by the sanctioning bodies. But you want him to fight for free? You sound dumb and that's a ****** comparison. Don't quote me with your nonsense
Kov made 400k for unification vs Hopkins before that he made chump change as semi final on Stevenson undercard and that was tittle fight not eliminator. Barrera fought on HBO he don't have HBO backing him up the reason is simple he dont sell enough just Like Beterbiev dont have PBC backing him up both promoters know the fight wont do well in revenue.
