Barrera never knew what he would be getting paid because there was no way in hell of him knowing what the winning bid would be.

That's not how purse bids work. You don't participate in a purse bid to find out what a fight is worth and then decide whether you want the fight or not.

A purse bid is held because two fighters have agreed to fight each other for whatever the market determines the fight is worth.

The entire sport would come to a grinding halt if fighters could just pick and choose which purse bids to honor. Barrera knew what the minimum bid was under IBF rules. Barrera should have known what his promoter intended to bid. GYM actually out bid Barrera's promoter by quite a bit. Had GYM decided not to bid, Barrera would have been making even less.

This entire thing has been a giant waste of time and there's nobody to blame but Barrera.

There's free negotiations before purse bids are called where the split could be whatever the promoters decide between them. Micheal refused to negotiate a betters split, and went straight to purse bid knowing Barrera would never take the fight for a 25% split.
