Comments Thread For: Joseph Parker Expects Major Improvements From Andy Ruiz Fight

Joseph Parker (22-0) made history in December when he became the first New Zealander to win a world championship in the heavyweight division. He defeated the then unbeaten Andy Ruiz (29-1) via majority decision in his homeland to capture the vacant WBO title.

Parker goes from steamrolling some people to looking painfully not special. Ruiz deserves another shot, that decision is a draw in the US and a Ruiz win in Mexico.

To be honest, I'm more interested in seeing Ruiz again with more time with Abel Sanchez.
I agree with the fact that it's a draw in the states. There was a bit of home cooking there.

Thats what happens when you stop fighting bums, like every other heavy weight.

Parker needs to KO Hughie Fury to be taken seriously as a champ for me. Another close decision suggests he's not a real threat to Wilder or the Joshua/Wald winner.

That was a very good fight for Parker, i didn't think he should of took that fight yet, but he got through it. Parker has never seen a boxer like Ruiz in his career and likely rarely if ever sparred one.

Ruiz is better than he looks, very good punching technique, pretty well schooled, very loose hands.

              good post.

You learn infinitely more on the job fighting very tough fights like ruiz and takam with barely any prior step up at a young age than you do going through your career fighting and KO'ing can's that are mostly not there to fight back (AJ/Wilder)

IF AJ get's stopped then everyone will question the matchmaking.

Yeah Parker taking on these savvy style boxers so early it's surprising to me. Parker has more talent than them, but they are far more schooled and experienced than he is.

Coming out of new Zealand Parker probably never experienced fighters like that, they just aren't around in NZ.

I don't think the Hughie fight is a good match-up for Parker. I think Hughie with his awkward style will make Parker look bad. Even if he does win it will be an ugly fight.

That's true, however they must get decent sparring in Vegas where he is trains?

Parker has one of the best jab's in the division, but never uses it...?
fastest hands in the division, great chin and decent power...

The big problem here is...Kevin Barry's abilities as a trainer in being able to take Parker to the next level, i think they have plateaued as a pair.

Just look at the advice he was giving Izu in the recent breazeale fight.

The total opposite of what Izu needed to hear.
