They don't make 'em like Arturo Gatti and Hearns anymore, but I think the fighters today are too scared to go out on their shield in a losing effort. All too cool with letting the clock run out and take the L. What casual is going to pay to see that guy again.

Also man promotors just stretch these guys out too long for the buck as well....

It's not boxers who are fixated on undefeated records but TV networks , promoters and managers who brainwash with that 0 the uneducated in 'sweet science' fans

I agree. I will tune in to see Lemieux and Stevens this weekend. I'm not a follower of either but it is the right match-up, and on paper it looks to be compelling. If I lived close to the fight arena I'd go and see it.

Actually, the loser of this fight WILL have some issues, especially Stevens. I reckon Lemieux could be built back up for one more tilt, not so for Curtis.

You also see in UFC that fighters can come back from losses. I do commend Thurman's attitude that he is not afraid to let go the 0. But on the other hand, laying out additional respect for fighting in a 50-50 fight is the same as saying you respect 60-40 or 70-30 match-ups. Tell the promoters that enough times and they will never have reason to make 50-50 fights.

You want more 50-50 fights? ... then don't proclaim a 50-50 fight as an exceptional event worthy of maximum respect. You the fan are sending the wrong message to fighters and promoters.

It's actually because of the fans. Same fans talking loud right now about how it's Floyd's fault, are the first one to claim a fighter got "exposed" and is no longer good or can no longer be P4P, or can no longer be fighter of the decade because he lost his 0. Look at the media/fans treatment of Canelo, he has loss and some tough wins and he doesn't get the respect he deserves for that. Who are the fans who rag on him, which side is it? It's very clear who the toxic fans are. Meanwhile they love the undefeated guy who hasn't fought anyone. Yeah sure, it's the Floyd fans fault lol.

Ray did learn from defeat. After getting mauled by Duran in his first career loss, he made the second fight a track meet and won going away, literally. lol

Floyd's undefeated record was only relevant because of the fighters he beat while staying undefeated, it seems that many boxers today have trouble understanding that. There are some fighters that have gone well past 49-0 but are not recognised as hall of fame fighters.

The word 'undefeated' has become a substitute for 'Untested' in boxing.
