How wasn't it a cherrypick? Bellew barely has a handful of fights at Cruiserweight with only one in the top 5 and had never fought at HW. Bellew is not a HW. He's arguably not a natural CW, I think I agree he is a bit stuck between classes.
He was given no chance by anybody. Nobody felt he belonged in the same ring. Literally everyone was worried for Bellews safety in there how is it not a cherrypick? He even said it was himself and called it a total mismatch.

It was a cherrypick that backfired badly just like the two bums he fought previously were cherrypicks just like when he fought Audrey Harrison and many, many others.

Haye is deemed as a top 3 HW talent, a former HW world champion he should of been targeting a Joseph Parker or a guy at least proven at the weight.
Instead he picked out a guy who he was supposed to obliterate inside 2-3 rounds and severely paid the price.
A guy he was supposed to walk through and move on to fight AJ but Bellew threw a spanner in the works.

Boxrec shows that this was HW fight. So Bellew's belt was not on the line then? I'm wondering why they missed the opportunity to make it a title fight. Is it because Haye can't make 200? Some intermediate weight class is needed here.

Haye had no interest in making 200 and he was nearly 2 stone over it.

There's no way that Haye won the first round. Haye was throwing bombs and missing every shot. I was very surprised that Bellew was avoiding those punches and hitting Haye with nice counter shots. I think Haye was in too much of a hurry to blast Bellew out in the first round. He started using his jab more in the second round and fought better after that but the first round looked kind of bad for Haye.
