Comments Thread For: Felix Verdejo Having Sessions With a Sports Psychologist

While rising Puerto Rican star Felix Verdejo (23-0, 15 KOs) waits for a determination on where and when he will fight again, he is attending sessions with a sports psychologist. The fighter's team enlisted the services of a specialist shortly after Verdejo's fight against Nicaraguan Oliver Flores in February. The young Puerto Rican was in trouble at the end of the fight, which he won by unanimous decision. His team admitted their disappointment with his performance at the end of the contest.

Sounds like this guy is done already. He hasn't even had a meaningful fight or been tested and he's already having psychological issues. Not a good sign. Talented fighter but if he doesn't have it mentally it wont matter.

Sounds like he's got a case of the yips. This guy caught it and was never the same after this game. Couldn't find the plate to save his life and got moved to the outfield

Another guy who caught the yips was Nick Anderson of the Orlando Magic. He missed 4 free throws with 10 seconds remaining in the first game of the NBA finals. Orland had a 3 point lead with 10 seconds remaining and all Nick had to do was make one free throw. He missed both but got the rebound and was fouled again. He missed the next two and Houston ended up winning the game in overtime and sweeping the Magic in 4 games. Andeson went from a 74 percent free throw shooter to a 40 percent free throw shooter after that game.

It's his promoter or manager, milking him like a cow. Playing who games, filling his head full of trash, but scared to let him swim with the sharks. He's conflicted, damn near 30 and still in the kiddy pool.

Verdejo is done. Not even close to where Cotto was at this point

He doesn't need a sports psychologist, he needs a good boxing trainer.

Probably should get out of Puerto Rico and get with an American coach. Roach, Garcia, JDJ, etc
