He tried to play the heel role, made his archaic (albeit surprisingly common) views public, but didn't have the ability and discipline to be able to say that. When you're winning, you can say and do virtually anything.
When you're unfit, sloppy, and appear to lack respect and discipline for your profession, then sympathy will be hard to come by.

I sympathize with his family because there is history of depression and bipolar disorder in my family, and if he really is genuine in his plight, then I truly do sympathize with them. As far as feeling bad for him personally?
