Comments Thread For: Hunter: I Was Totally Against Khan Taking 'Crazy' Canelo Fight

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama Virgil Hunter feels much more comfortable training Amir Khan to fight Manny Pacquiao than he did preparing him to face Canelo Alvarez. Hunter hated the idea of Khan moving up technically two weight classes to challenge Alvarez for the WBC middleweight title from the moment the fight was made last year. Khan was well-compensated for facing Alvarez on May 7 in Las Vegas, but Hunter still feels as though there was too much working against Khan for that task to have been worth the risk.

Great that Khan's chin is actually a plus factor for longevity and long lasting health. Seems that his weak chin actually saves him from more concussive blows.

How did 2 judges have Canelo up? Khan won the first 3 rounds and lost the fourth. Maybe 2 rounds even. But Canelo up? That just shows how difficult it will be for Canelo to be out pointed - another obstacle for Chavez.

But still happily took his cut of the money and talked about how Khan can beat Canelo leading up to the fight.

            Really guys....

Kahn: I want to do the impossible its a real challenge and i need the best in my corner

Virgil: Amir, I don't think you have a chance... don't prove me wrong, as a matter of fact I won't train you because i think your nuts.

REALLY? Thats the type of trainer you want? I guess Braddock's manager, who pleaded with him not to die by the right hand of Baur, should have refused him as well...

And Dundee? for a young brash colored kid to challenge the great night train? Are you crazy Ali?! don't you know your place!!!!?

Hopefully people get the point here...Hint: I am not mocking Ali, or ANY fighter that asks for a trainer to go to battle with them under adverse circumstances.

Also in Kahn and Virgil's defense: Kahn was winning that fight. Virgil didn't say anything analytical about impossibility, he was using the term to describe the color of his feelings when Kahn made the request. WHAT he did say analytically was very telling: he said and I quote "there was no margin for error." Which means he did the best he could for his fighter, and Kahn had a chance...kahn made a mistake when he could not. Sh11t happens.

Everyone knew he shouldn't take the fight if Amir and his family said yes we are doing it with or without you and he warned him then his job was getting him in best shape and plan possible
