I think it could be on the verge of becoming the Mecca for heavyweight boxing. We have a lot of depth in that division and there's clearly a lot of interest in it. I think Wilder, for example, would make more money travelling here than our fighters would make facing him in his backyard
Is the UK the "New Mecca" for boxing?

Wait, you're going back to Hagler/Minter to why UK fans are bad? That was shameful, but it happened a long time ago. Nothing of the sort would happen in this day and age. Don't be so silly. If UK fans wouldn't try to sing while a fight is going on I would like them a lot more. Their treatment of visiting boxers can be shameful. When Hagler went to England and KOed Minter they threw beer bottles at Hagler. Hagler needed a police escort to leave the arena. US fans can be bad too with their constant shouts of USA and booing the visiting boxer. The UK fans come to the USA by the thousands to support their favorite fighters and that's good. But then they boo the American anthem. That shows a lack of class and respect.Comment

It's Because Beer in the arena is like $20 dollars a pop. I for one like to pre-drink so that I don't have to pay $100 for 5 Beers. Don't start on liquor or food. You can easily spend 200 with beer pop-corn and a couple shots.Hagler - Minter was in an era when Hooliganism was rife in the UK. we got banned from sports in Mainland Europe because we blindly caused fights any time we went up against any foreigners in anything.
Americans come off as disrespectful because of their huge showings of patriotism when a fighter is against a foreigner with USA chants etc whereas We British just straight up abuse people we dont like or support, thats how we are. I can only think of Ricky Hattons fight when that anthem booing happened and the rest of the UK was ashamed of those fans and how it made us look.
We respect all national anthems in fights over here in Britain certainly since that incident.
On another note.. its more than true that the atmosphere at regular boxing shows in the USA is sooooo boring. people only turning up for the last two fights of the card. Sat munching on popcorn barely moving .
Our fights, promoted by people like Hearn are promoted as nights out, where everyone not just celebs gets all dolled up and enjoy the occasion as they would a night out in a the clubs.
Party atmosphere UK boxing ****s over the USA atmosphere right now.Comment

Beers at the 02 Arena are about £4.50 / £5.00 which is about 6 dollars..
Burgers etc are usually about the equivalence of 8 dollars. But UK fans usually eat before boxing is what im saying.
A matchroom card ( i wont use Warren cards because theyre nearly exclusively held at leisure centres and hockey rinks )at the 02 will usually start at 5/6pm and the main card will start at 8pm until 11/midnight.
By 7:30pm the place is rammed and is packed for the next 4 hours of boxing. In the states your main card is literally like 2 or 3 fights in the eyes of the fans and thats all they turn up. Alabama was a joke at the weekend for Wilders fight, it was nigh on empty for 90% of the evening.
I'll take a stadium or arena fightin the UK anyday over the USA right now.Last edited by yammy25; 02-28-2017, 02:56 PM.Comment

Everyone got an opinion on Hearn, but Matchroom know what theyre doing with their sports.
Darts, Snooker, Boxing.. all have seen a full U-turn revival and become massive for Sky sports since Matchroom took care of them.Comment
