Is the UK the "New Mecca" for boxing?

It seems UK are the best boxing fans and the best atmosphere for big fights.

American boxers should consider expanding fan base and hosting more fights in the UK.

If UK fans wouldn't try to sing while a fight is going on I would like them a lot more. Their treatment of visiting boxers can be shameful. When Hagler went to England and KOed Minter they threw beer bottles at Hagler. Hagler needed a police escort to leave the arena. US fans can be bad too with their constant shouts of USA and booing the visiting boxer. The UK fans come to the USA by the thousands to support their favorite fighters and that's good. But then they boo the American anthem. That shows a lack of class and respect.

Hagler - Minter was in an era when Hooliganism was rife in the UK. we got banned from sports in Mainland Europe because we blindly caused fights any time we went up against any foreigners in anything.

Americans come off as disrespectful because of their huge showings of patriotism when a fighter is against a foreigner with USA chants etc whereas We British just straight up abuse people we dont like or support, thats how we are. I can only think of Ricky Hattons fight when that anthem booing happened and the rest of the UK was ashamed of those fans and how it made us look.

We respect all national anthems in fights over here in Britain certainly since that incident.

On another note.. its more than true that the atmosphere at regular boxing shows in the USA is sooooo boring. people only turning up for the last two fights of the card. Sat munching on popcorn barely moving .

Our fights, promoted by people like Hearn are promoted as nights out, where everyone not just celebs gets all dolled up and enjoy the occasion as they would a night out in a the clubs.

Party atmosphere UK boxing ****s over the USA atmosphere right now.

UK atmosphere is great the only problem is it gets taken advantage of by the promoters with terrible mismatches being hyped up to casuals as competitive fights remember haye vs audley how the hell they managed to convince the british public to fork out for that i will never know

                It is difficult.

I doubt we'd turn up to see Luis Ortiz for example headline against another foreign fighter.

Luis Ortiz is a bit of an anomaly really. But you can see his deal making sense because we have a few heavies he could face. But he's not gonna be able to build up a fan base of his own.

                Shannon Briggs probably could!

I think our fans know a good fight when we see one. Say if Haymon started doing shows over here about a year ago and had Thurman and Garcia fight on a few cards and let our fans get to know them a little and see the drama and beef unfold. That fight would fill the 02 and be on PPV. If I was an American promoter I'd see the gap in the market and start putting shows on and try get a broadcaster and gather momentum and let the casuals get to know the foreign fighters and fights would sell out due to it being something different.

Darts is hilarious, Americans should check the pandemonium at the darts tournaments, Hearns responsible for that aswell
