Stripping Canelo would go against why it was created. Silly Golovtards.
Here's what The Ring's Championship Policy (lineal) also states...
Championship vacancies can be filled in the following two ways:
1. THE RING’s Nos. 1 and 2 contenders fight one another.
2. If the Nos. 1 and 2 contenders chose not to fight one another and either of them fights No. 3, No. 4 or No. 5, the winner may be awarded THE RING belt if the Editorial Board deems the contenders worthy.
Good day. I'm done embarrassing you for tonight.Last edited by Pugilisticuffs; 02-27-2017, 01:26 AM.

Prior to the 1970s, this rarely happened; the National Boxing Association (NBA) and the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) sometimes recognized different champions, but there was usually only a short interval before one champion defeated the other. In this era, a title vacancy was generally filled by having a single-elimination tournament box-off between two or more top-ranked contenders. The lineal championship is intended as a return to that era. Several top boxers have specified holding the lineal championship as a personal accomplishment (e.g. Lennox Lewis[3]) or goal (e.g., Nate Campbell[1]).

The hypocrisy of the ring is incredible and they cannot be taken seriously by any fan.
oscar de la hoya is canelo's promoter.
the ring magazine title is absolutely meaningless now.

the ring title has nothing to do with lineal anymore. ring magazine is owned by oscar de la hoya. they make up the rules as they go along. they do whatever harms haymon and whatever helps HBO.

There originally was no belt for it because it wasn't needed, it wasn't necessary. The Ring these days has even LESS credibility than the alphabet soup/ABC orgs, which is what this thread is about, son.
Here's what The Ring's Championship Policy (lineal) also states...
So, if there's a vacancy to be filled AND both the #1 & #2 rated fighters refuse to fight each other, THEN they allow the #1 OR the #2 rated fighter to fight up to the #5 rated fighter and the winner "may" be awarded their "lineal" title if "deemed worthy" by their board. What a joke. This is who you're backing!

See the difference? In one case the champ was too good for the fight. Other, the champ is not big or good enough. How can you be MW lineal if you're not a MW? That's a minimum requirement
