what are you talking about man?? i'm not talking about white american, from what i see from videos in the net, african-american dont really mind when latino use the N word.

i admit i am ignorant since i'm not american, but in my country the N word or to be specific the word "negro" is not derogatory term, it just another word for black. we have black people here in indonesia and we (the malay race) call them "negro" or other terms since they have black skin and they call us "sawo" because our skin have the same color as sawo fruit.

the N word is taboo in U.S and europe because it has tie to slavery and oppresion by white people, but for us who are equal since the beginning and also both oppress by european it just another word for black. the philippines even have island name negros.

Language does not abide by rules set in stone... People always try to demarcate language usage...what one can do is deconstruct the power bases within language and the psychology of the language user. This is actually very easy to do with Angel: Keep in mind most of this activity a person goes through is subconscious, I doubt Angel is aware of any of this.

Angel has a problem: He wants to be identified as a Borican in the manner that someone like his son Danny, who looks more ethnic than Angel, can identify. Puerto Ricans can be European looking, all the way to African looking, because of all the influences.

Angel has some subconscious issues with being succesful and looking anglo, so to compensate he tries to be identified and to use language, that a darker Puerto Rican, from a similar street background as he experienced, would use. Angel, like more than a few Mexican guys who look European, do not like to be identified with the white power structure. I mention Mexican people because Canelo and even De La Hoya are examples of guys who can be identified with the anglican power structure. meanwhile, Nando for example? was from Oxnard California but was easily identified as "Mexican" because he looked very much like an indigenious Azteca person!

I used to have a martial arts teacher, white guy from the Marines, who taught mostly black students in a major inner city area...he would use the N word *******ly. in his mind he had earned that privalege. It occasionally caused him problems, but it was important to him. Angel is doing something similar. In Angel's mind, Thurmond, who is a handsome, obvious African American, is a threat to Angel's "blackness." Thurmond is handling the situation beautifully.

I can't even watch a tv show with out one of the characters having to be gay. The Walking Dead a show about zombies even had to shove two gay guys in the storyline.
