Why Did UFC/Dana/Conor/Rousey always bring up Floyd?

I don't watch MMA. Maybe the highlighs from certain big fights, but I'm honestly not into it.Because his name = publicity, and attention which = revenue.
Simple.
UFC knows there is a large group of us hardcore boxing fans, who also have a respect for, and enjoy MMA. So by equating the biggest name in the history of boxing (financially), they draw the attention of more fans.
Before Conor, there was never really was an MMA fighter with enough star power, and big enough to be a huge "B" side (or more like an "A-, or B+ side like in the case of Pac/Floyd), and draw enough revenue for a fight between the two worlds to actually be a reality.
With Conor now, though, there is simply too much money on the table for this fight to pass up. Also with the fickleness of MMA, i.e. it's so easy to lose in MMA due to all the different styles, there isn't much time to "build the fight up." The time is perfectly ripe now after Conor won titles in two weight classes.
I would be highly surprised if this fight does not take place by the end of the year, or possibly spring/summer 2018. HIGHLY surprised.Comment

That's cool, doe; there are a lot of us, however, that do watch and follow MMA pretty intensely.
I don't watch and follow it as much as boxing (with boxing I'll watch every fight I can, no matter the magnitude), with MMA I'm not that bothered if I miss the prelims, and just catch the main card.
While I like boxing more, I respect MMA just as much as boxing, and realize how much one has to dedicate their lives if they want to compete at the top level. Boxing has been evolving for centuries, while MMA for maybe 2-3 decades. So we are still at the sports beginning, essentially.
But not to ramble too much - but yeah - the reason why a MMA fighter will call out Floyd, or mention him once they start to get a little steam, and get on top, is to associate themselves with his financial status, and put more asses in seats, and eyeballs on television sets.
At the end of the day, that's what it's all about for fighters, and promoters.Comment

The path to money is Floyd right now it's sad that he even makes more than Heavyweights. Al Haymon must be a marketing genius cause I wouldn't spend $30 to watch Floyd I rather watch Knock kings like Tyson, GGG , Chavez St Gerald Mclleam type fightersComment

Al Haymon is a genius, correct. He called Rousey, White, McNugget to ask them for a favor, to publicize Floyds name just for the heck of it, because it would benefit UFC...
He even told Abel to say Floyds name at 154 during the Wade pressers even though he was already retired. Which meant Alvarez left with PPV status when Floyd left, which Golvokin refused to acknowledge but still wanted Floyd at 154.. how does that work?Comment

It goes both ways...but usually it's some low rate media like tmz trying to stir the pot. Right now floyd is probably using them to stay relevant just as much as they are using him.Comment
