Ali is one of the original icons of the day along with Sugar Ray Robinson.

Jigglenuts...let me break it down to you, so even infants like you will understand...

Ali, fought everybody in their prime, win or lose. Frazier stayed a threat, Norton and Foreman when they were coming up. Hell I'd even throw Spinks, Lyle, and Shavers in there when he couldn't dance no more. Safe, was not in his vocabulary.

Floyd, is the epitome of a safe fighter. Period. From the way fights are negotiated to how the actual fight plays out. Health came first. Threats are avoided at all costs.

Mayweathers defensive base is better than Ali's but Ali's defensive stance allowed him to get more power on his punches. Mayweathers stance is efficient even when he stand still and is getting harangued but Ali's was based on his movement which is why it varied so much in different fights and why it declined so much when he aged.

I would say they were just different defensively, and defense doesn't make up a fighter totally. Plus fighters age differently depending on who it is. Ali had far more pro fights than Floyd Mayweather, and Floyd, fought a lot of cats that were tailor made for him.
They were just totally different. Ali used his mouth to promote the event, and was a showman in the ring. Floyd used his mouth to promote the event, but rarely does the event, live up to the hype.

Ali was similiar to RJJ in that they were blessed with their abilities. I believe May's technique is much better than both.
