I don't dispute the principle that usually a challenger shouldn't negotiate like a champion. But in the specific case of Pascal-Stevenson in the Montreal market, Pascal has a leg to stand on to be asking for a 50-50 or in that range based notably on drawing power. Pascal has been a draw in MTL since his 2008 fight with Froch for the vacant WBC super-middleweight belt. No doubt, Pascal is a polarizing figure in MTL but people respect the fact that is proved his willingness to take on all comers. On the other hand, Stevenson is also polarizing but people, for the most part, don't respect what he has done in the ring.
One last thing, Pascal is actually the reason why Adonis got to opportunity to fight Dawson for the belt: Pascal turned down the fight to fight Bute instead. Sure, he did it for more money but also to give the "people" what they wanted!

One last tangent. If Pascal fights Dawson in 2013 for the WBC and lineal and wins the fight, given how the events have unfolded since then, it isn't that far-fetched to think that Ward might be the undisputed 175 lbs champ at the moment!
