brook v spence - history repeating itself...

Im getting a real sense of de ja vu with this spence fight.

When brook v porter was being talked about, many accused him of ducking porter. Porter with his aggressive style, had recently looked sensational stopping a light punching malignaggi in a manner that noone else had. Brook beat porter, outboxing him but did not receive much credit for this. WHenever that win gets mentioned on this forum, it gets a lukewarm 'meh' response. The hype that porter received around that time has been well and truly forgotten.

Fast forward to 2017. With talk of spence v brook, many have accused brook of ducking spence. Spence with his aggressive style, has recently looked sensational, stopping a light punching algieri in a manner that noone else has.

If brook beats spence, are people going to change there tune and start downplaying it? Are you going to do what you did after the porter fight? Will spence get thrown on the dungheap like other fighters do when they lose there 0 and people pretend like they were never hyped in the first place?

If brook beats spence will people find a new undefeated boogeyman that brooks supposedly ducking?

Spence is much better than Porter. If Brook beats Spence that is really saying something

This fight is a fight were I think Brook is the favorite, he's fighting a young prospect who's never been in deep waters before, coming into the Porter fight Brook was already tested and had tough fights against Carson Jones and Former Champ Senchenko, Spence has easily destroyed everyone, he's already beaten two top 25 fighters in Algeri and Bundu but lets not forget Algeri was dropped 8 times before coming into the Spence fight, I see no reason for Brook to be scared esp since Golovkin couldn't drop him I doubt Spence drops him, but I understand why Hearn is scared, Brook has huge money fights against Khan, Pacquaio and eventually Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr, all that goes down the toilet if Brook were to lose back to back fights, this is kinda how Oscar De La Hoya was feeling about the Lara and Trout fights for Canelo, most people thought they would beat Canelo but at the end Canelo was just too good,

If I had to give odds on this fight I would have Brook at a slight -160 favorite over Specne

I agree with OP and this does tend to happen with US fighters. That's the reason why us Brits are the best fight fans in the world, we stick by our fighter even if they lose a fight. These O's aint loyal.

If it goes as I expect, prepare for a lot of 'over-hyped' type comments.

Pretty much the exact same as the Porter situation. He went from 'welterweight Mike Tyson' to 'amateur' after Brook handled him with ease.

I agree, people were talking about Porter, not just on here but in the American boxing pres as if he was some little Tyson and yet, his record didn't really contain many big KO victories. He was basic and I called it back then. Brook won in a physical fight with his superior skill and size.

Spence is different though. I don't rate him that highly because he has done nothing to write home about BUT he does contain world class power and he has the size to match. If he can make it a physical fight, Brook will be in for a hellish night.

Having said that, I still expect Brook to win and there is no reason in saying he doesnt get credit for beating Porter because thats literally all he's done and thats all people bring up when they talk of Brook.

Brook beats Porter. Then fights Golovkin and Spence back to back. But there's still fools on here calling him a ducker. They were hoping he would hand Spence the title. Now he hasn't acted the way they would they bring up a supposed duck of Bradley. Laughable try hards.

I don't remember anyone accusing Brook (The mandatory) of ducking Porter (The champion). And I was one of the people backing Brook at that time.

I was going to say the same thing, people did say Brook would get destroyed but I didn't recall anyone saying he would avoid Porter.

How does a mandatory challenger avoid the champion? .... that's a rare scenario indeed.

porter does not have much power. never did. went the distance twice with julio diaz. spence is a destroyer. brook will have to take far more punishment to win this one(or knock spence out quickly). im sure he will try to go back to his grappling strategy that won it for him against porter but will it work this time?
