Establishing yourself as a known boxer.

I haven't posted in a while and I see the morons and race baiters are still at it (lets give them a standing ovation for their commitment).

Anyways I wanted to know the (best) way a boxer can become popular. Examples of what exactly I'm referring to are Ali, Tyson, Mayweather, Pacquiao. Essentially names that you can ask anyone and they will know who is it is.

So on that note, what would you say gets a boxer to that level. Would they need to KO a ton of guys? I don't think so because GGG and many others are basically KO artists and still are virtually unknown to the average person hence their inability to get high PPV numbers.

Maybe it has to do with marketing a fighter. They have to pique someone's interest. If this is the case then a lot of these boxers have terrible PR teams.

Anyone want to share their thoughts on this?
Maybe this is more complicated then I think or maybe not.

and your name is kid BLACKIE lmfao

but back to your subject, You need charisma and a personality and need to speak THE LANGUAGE OF THE GROUP YOU WANT TO BE POPULAR OF. Your boxing ability is second to that in the grand schemes of things where it pertains to popularity.

I'm tired of people bringing up the name. Kid Blackie is the nickname of Jack Dempsey. He had jet black hair hence his nickname was such. There's Kid Chocolate (Eligio Montalvo) and Kid Dynamite (Mike Tyson).

You guys need to learn some boxing history smh this is pathetic. I'm tired of educating fools. I'm not a professor.

In the States you gotta have some ****ing PERSONALITY that is the ONLY reason why McGregor is so popular. He is not the best fighter in the UFC in the Octagon but he is Good! But what separates him from the rest in the UFC is that big PERSONALITY!

If you're not Interesting Outside of the ring people lose interest REAL QUICK! Sure OK you can knock some people out but WHAT ELSE? You could get away with not having Personality or not being able to speak English like Trinidad and Chavez IF you have a Charismatic Promoter like Don King Promoting you. Like Anthony Joshua really don't have much of a Personality but his Promoter Eddie Hearn is a big personality that fight fans and boxing media want to hear from so it works for them

I agree with everything you said. It makes a lot of sense. Especially if you take into account how much people watch Mayweather fight and this is no insult but we all know he isn't the most exciting fighter.

You have to use an charismatic personality to draw people to the fight. If you're GGG and just fight but then go into hiding you can say, instead of establishing an legitimate and stable fanbase then it's going to show when the PPV numbers come in.

Have hope. I knew Dempsey used to call himself that BEFORE you had to explain it in the PREVIOUS thread you did haha. Looks like this is going to be a common occurance.

I only know because Jack Dempsey is one fighter that as a boxing fan, you look into, rather than just knowing he is a past hw champ (have a couple of his books also).

He bought in the first million-dollar gate in boxing, first 2 million dollar gate (vs Tunny 2) and i think first million dollar gate in a non title fight (vs sharkey?).

Oh and forget about the records, what about the willard fight!!
6'1", 190 pound Dempsey knocked the 6'6½", 245 pound Willard down seven times in the 1st round, in one of the most brutal fights I've seen.

              About your original thread... dunno.

Here's a good article on how Ali was influenced by a wrestler called Gorgeous George :

"[I got it] from seeing Gorgeous George wrestle in Las Vegas," Ali told the Associated Press' Hubert Mizel in a 1969 interview. "I saw his aides spraying deodorant in the opponents' corner to contain the smell. I also saw 13,000 full seats. I talked with Gorgeous for five minutes after the match and started being a big-mouth and a bragger.

"He told me people would come to see me get beat. Others would come to see me win. I'd get 'em coming and going."
