This is especially true in a division that is becoming depleted of its top names because they are moving up in weight. Who is left to fight at 140lbs other than former lightweights that may move up?

Examples of Fighters who came up in weight:
SRL, SRR, Sugar Shane Mosley, Duran, Chavez, Morales, Barrera, Pac, Corrales, Mayweather, Pernell, Sugar Shane, Roy Jones, ODLH, Trinidad,
all candidates for greatness...so ur point is ?
not many fighters step up AND get a world title shot unless the
champs team see some financial gain from the fight.

yeah, a light weight that has to cheat to make the weight?!?! give me a break castillo is no longer a lighweight anyways and has to move up so this is a great fight for both of them and for us as people who like to watch guys beat the **** out of eachother.

It looks like he's backing off that statement now..

            Hatton ponders next move!

            Friday, May 19 2006

It's still up in the air as to whether WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton will remain at welter or drop back down to 140. "I'm a natural light welterweight and nothing has changed," he said. "I have to thank my strength coach Kerry Kayes because seven weeks before this fight, I was due to meet Juan Lazcano at light welterweight. And then I was fighting Collazo at welterweight, so I had seven weeks to build into a welterweight. If I stay at welterweight, I'll only get better because I'd develop more into the weight. But, I showed that I can cut it, that's the main thing; if a big fight is offered at junior welterweight, I'll come back down but I showed that I can do it at welter as well"

Hatton got handled. Hatton's heart is weak.

He can adjust if he wanted, but he doesn't feel like it. He needs to take the easy route. While Mayweather is climbing weight classes making history, Hatton is moving back down in weight because he got beat after climbing one. Hmmm.

Hatton looked like he had great heart in the fight with Collazo, he wasn't fighting his best, but gave his all, and didn't go down in the 12th when he was under the cosh.

I'm not talking about money I'm talking about competiting. Great fighters go to where the competition is, not that going there necessarily makes you a great fighter but shows that your attempting great things.

Hatton is attempting to do this by going to 147lbs because he knows the competition is there and not at 140lbs. If he comes back down he is avoiding the better competition that is at or going to 147lbs.

That should really read "Mayweather is climbing weight classes fighting other guys who are climbing weight classes"

How come Hatton can't do well in 147lbs? What's the excuse? He's too lazy to train or what? Maybe too many quality fighters that can beat him perhaps.
