Interestingly, Stevenson took less up front money to sign with Top Rank...

    Rafael:

Terms of the multiyear promotional deal were not disclosed, but the 19-year-old Stevenson, who will fight professionally in the 126-pound featherweight division, took less guaranteed money in terms of a signing bonus and minimum purses than he was offered elsewhere because he wanted to be with Top Rank, which in 50 years of business has helped developed many of the biggest stars in boxing.

Thurman Garcia winner will be a bigger star but Thurman has never been a big ticket seller. Don't count the pbc ticket giveaway.

Guys like Verdejo and Jose Ramirez sell a ton of tickets for Top Rank and haven't even broken through yet.
Hell seanie Monaghan sells more tickets than Spence
Anybody can say 'so and so sells more tickets than so and so', where is your proof?

What's Spence's most anticipated fight so far? Chris Algieri? How about you give me ticket sales for that fight and compare to Crawford vs Gamboa etc etc?

And please don't even talk about undercard fighters like Verdejo and Lomachenko, coz that's bull, you don't even need to bring any proof for those ones, I already know it's bull.

Man I aint never seen a troll like this before, literally sucking ***** out your ass.

Obviously it's a good thing for Top Rank to strengthen their prospects portfolio, but it requires deep pockets to build several of these guys at once. Just as importantly the security of that investment is not the same for promoters now either.

The reaction on the part of some of the Mayweather fanbase is amusing though. It's offensive on two counts. Firstly that Top Rank have the audacity to not surrender in the face of Haymon's pressure.

Secondly, and the greatest insult of all, is that a young black Olympian has chosen Bob Arum over Al Haymon. I'm not sure they'll ever forgive him for it

"I just wanted to work with some of the best in business and I know Top Rank creates superstars, from Oscar to Floyd to Cotto. They've created a bunch of superstars," Stevenson told ESPN. "I wanted the route where I am made into a superstar and take over the sport of boxing. I signed with Top Rank because of what they've done in the business. They have a proven track record.
Basically the same as what Conlan said.

Didn't see this coming but I think it was the safest bet for Shakur. Other promoters may have moved him a little quicker, but Arum's caution can pay dividends in the long run

By the way, is this only Arum's third Olympian from Rio? Shakur, Conlan and Conceicao? Usually he gets more, right?

Its easy to say. Crawford Gamboa was a main event. Sold 10k tickets no comps. Algieri vs Spence was in Algieri's backyard as a co feature. Not even the main event and had local ticket sellers like Heather Hardy on the card plus Cunningham Glowacki. Spence is a good fighter but he hasn't gotten to that next level. A win over Brook would do that for him.

Lomachenko has never been a ticket seller. I never mentioned him. A guy like Verdejo sells 7k seats for Unimas shows routinely. Jose Ramirez sold 10k seats in Fresno for Unimas and the jury is still out if they will be stars but they already have fan bases. Spence has shown more ability but they have been marketed better and have bigger fan faces. Spence doesn't even fight at home. hes been fighting in NY and other places.

That isn't trolling. Those are facts.

It was a good decision for Stevenson. I think he understood that having any involvement with Mayweather is completely toxic.

However, TR is going to need to get something like Golden Boy has with ESPN to build Stevenson and some of their other guys on television. That should be their goal for 2018.
