Comments Thread For: Wilder: Gerald Washington 'Definitely Not' Ready for This Fight

NEW YORK Deontay Wilder doesn't seem overly concerned about Gerald Washington. The WBC heavyweight champion admitted Wednesday that he doesn't think Washington is ready for the type of fight they'll wage February 25 in Birmingham, Alabama. The 34-year-old Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs), a former USC football player, had just 14 amateur fights, didn't make his pro debut until he was 30 and took this title shot on short notice once Wilder's original opponent, Poland's Andrzej Wawrzyk, tested positive last month for a performance-enhancing drug.

And that's why Wilder chose him, over stronger HWs such as Luis Ortiz.

Ortoz didn't look too strong going the distance with the guy Wilder laid-out in ONE round.

No he didn't you idiot a fighter would say that about anyone they fight. "He not ready" is a term that's always used in sports. You armchair nerds wouldn't know that though

No he chose him because he isn't a cheater if you idiots don't understand that then oh well. Who said Ortiz was stronger? Ever since he cheated and got caught doesn't look too strong.

                    Just youtubed this gerald washington.
I think he is worse than Seth Mitchell in terms of technique and fluidity although both really moved like robots.
But at least Mitchell has his hand up. Washington's hands are always beside his waist. Here's hoping he doesn't have Mitchell's chin.
