    Inside fighting.

Inside fighting is a dying art. Not too many fighters do it anymore. Who do you blame? Do trainers just not teach their fighters how to do it anymore?

Personally, I blame the amateur system. It favors outside fighting and throwing pitty-pat punches. It's why some fighters who are standout amateurs are having trouble adjusting to the pros.

I dont blame the amateur system at all. I blame the scoring/judging system in PRO boxing. Inside fighters NEVER get their due when it comes to decisions. Body punches are RARELY acknowledged. Judges seem to score by whats appealing to the eye instead of focusing on ring generalship. Think of it this way, a judge sees an inside fighter work his way in but get his head snapped back with the sweat flying off, that makes more of a lasting impression than the 2-3 body blows landed after that.

Basically to be an inside fighter in this generation, dont leave it to the judges.

The only problem is that Referees don't let fighters stay inside long enough to do any inside fighting anymore.

Way to much breaking, which ironically has led to more holding, since you know as soon as you grab on, the ref will break you, before the other guy has a chance to do any work.

I blame the ref, they are the one that dictate how the fight is going to go ultimately and usually refs are too involved they wanna feel justified in their job so they inject themselves where they dont really belong. Instead of letting fighters fight out of it, they break it. Instead of letting fighters fight on the inside they break it, hell the rope a dope is dead now cause of refs, you cant even bait the fighter cause the ref will stop the fight.

If they fight inside the ref won't break them...If they just stand around and look at the ref..then they break them.

no its usually the guy who dont want the inside fight that looks at teh ref and most ref are obliged. A good ref will ignore a fighters attempt to manipulate the situation in his favor, just cause a fighter cant fight or refuses to fight on the inside and looks for a way out by clinching, it shouldnt be acceptable nor should it be permissible and isnt by boxing rules (excessive clinching) but most ref are relucant to take points for it cause they know it will happen again and it will escalate into a DQ and thats a NO NO.

Amateur rules killed it. Fighters enter the game with no clue.

Ward and Peterson do well in the pocket.

It's a combination of both and the networks tend to like it since the outside punches always look more grandiose when landed in slow motion so the crowd can give a better reaction. If you watch the fights from past eras, there is a lot more inside fighting. I wish more guys knew how to fight on the inside. Roberto Duran should be training them more often or have a hand in the training. Arcel taught him more than most guys will ever know.
