Has Andre Ward ever been in a top 5 fight of the year?

Great comparison.
It wasn't my fight of the year, but I enjoyed Ward-Kovalev. We never seen Ward get hit that much and really pushed to the limit. We're so used to seeing Ward in complete control over his opponent, but Kovalev refused to let that happen.
We can argue who we thought won, it's a shame that some people can never be satisfied. Probably just bitter that Ward got the nod.
If they have their rematch in Vegas or California, I might go this time.

Who cares? Fight of the year has become a consolation prize for fighters that aren't good enough to be champions and pound for pound kings.
It's less relevant than the WBC silver belt. In the rare instance an elite fighter is involved in a fight of the year, I bet he breaks up buds on whatever hardware he received for it.

It was a high level tactical fight, very tense, you could feel it through the screen
But it didnt have enough blood and guts action to be a FOTY.
Thats not a knock. Alot of FOTY feature boxers with more guts than skill. Gatti, for example was in MANY FOTY, but nobody would mistake him for an elite fighter.
Meanwhile, dudes like Money, BHop, Finito Lopez were the best of their era, but never really were in FOTY.
