The Povetkin situation ate up a lot of time because they both messed around before getting to each other and since that was a big money fight only limited risks were going to be taken. Then Povetkin gets popped so Wilder rightly wanted a bout ASAP which was easiest to do in house but he got injured in that fight. That is a lot of time that went out the window because of that situation.

Now Wilder has to step it up really Stiverne and Ortiz are going to fight for mandatory status. If Wilder wants to get paid before that he will have to fight someone Parker-Fury winner, the real Fury, or perhaps Haye the latter two being better options because he can further push off the mandatory with unification fights (and the big prize the winner of Joshua-Wlad) or just fight the winner of that Stiverne-Ortiz fight. There is really no other way it is going unless he gets hurt again.

I'm American so OF COURSE I want to see Wilder do well but after Michael Grant and a few other American Heavyweight Prospects who did not work out, I'm A LOT harder on American Heavyweights and very reluctant to believe in any of them until prove other wise so again nothing personal toward Wilder for me. I don't hate him for reasons that has nothing to do with boxing like other dumb ***s on this forum who hate any fighter with a "HUE" to him and doesn't come from the Eastern Europe Region of the world

I have just enjoyed Wilder and it has been a fun ride one that will likely come to an end sooner rather than later.

Wilder and why I always liked him is he doesn't try to be something he isn't and is actually a excellent athlete. That right there makes him something different than like every American heavy of the last 2 decades. Wilder was never going to be a textbook fighter and while he has skills they were always going to look awkward and funky. Eventually he will lose likely by knockout because that is how it goes and he was never going to be this flawless fighter, generally speaking though a guy does not need to be flawless to be highly successful just have the right attributes that cover their flaws.

So to me with Wilder people have always been hung up on why he should fail, and didn't look at things that actually make him a difficult guy to deal with.

He doesn't have to have already beaten all these good fighters. That's resume. If you honestly think he is good enough you can but him on your list. I honestly think Spence can beat any welterweight. Wilder is a world champion and he should be defending his title against top contenders. He has fought unranked guys most of us never heard of time and time again. Fighting for a vacant title does mean something if the guys fighting for are among the best fighters in that weight class.
That's pretty much how I think of P4P - more of an eye test thing than anything else (while still maintaining the whole concept of P4P is a pair of rotten turtle balls) - so Spence is a legitimate pick in some ways, though for me he's not quite there yet. That defence has looked pretty flawed at times and whether he's chosen to neglect it against light hitters like Bundu and Spence or whether he can tighten up (or simply outgun) someone with a little more pop is still a question that needs to be answered in my book. Really do want to see Brook vs Spence though - that should really answer some questions.

          • i don't see people say much negative about spence (or much of anything about spence).. that might be your imagination

wilder is facing ggg-style criticism for lack of a high profile win -- except ggg seems to be trying his best to make it happen with canelo etc and is fighting jacobs while wilder has been very picky.

            • I wasn't aware Spence got much hate to be honest. Wilder, well i can kind of see why people would be critical of him.
