    That's why.
Still doesn't make any sense. The night he won the IBO welterweight title, he also won the IBF welterweight title. The IBO title was thrown in that night and had nothing to do with paving the way for anything. He won the WBC title in his next fight and then threw the IBO title in the garbage.

That the IBO has always been treated as a stepping stone (just ask Eubank) is beside the point.

WBC Lightweight didn't do anything for Floyd's jump off. All it did was get him some exposure. IBO is where everything went up for him - then he left them in the dust and went back to WBC, because WBC was where all of the big names were.

you're still not making sense because if your position is that winning a welterweight title is what catapulted him, he won the IBF title the same night he won the IBO. so the IBO wasn't a stepping stone since he won a recognized world championship the very same night.

No. My position is that winning the IBO title BECAUSE he went up to welter at the same time had more significance than carrying the WBC while he was at lightweight.

Floyd was a beast at lightweight but he wasn't a big money draw until welterweight. He didn't get a WBC welterweight title until AFTER the IBO title.

Thus, the IBO was the jump off.

              Done.
