  • The IBO SMW title is cursed.

Two other people held that belt.

Both of them were introduced with hype and talked up like mad...only to eventually get embarrassed.

Vinny Paz who literally got embarrassed by every slick fighter he ever faced, especially Roger Mayweather.

Jeff "Lights Out" Lacy who got embarrassed by Joe Calslappy and magically lost his knockout powers afterwards.

I'm not discrediting IBO as it paved the way for a lot of the legends in boxing past. But that particular belt had a rough time of it.

Thomas Oosthuizen, "The South African Calzaghe" also held that title and made multiple defences. Oosthuizen is famous for losing 10+ fights but still having an 0 on his record.

Eubank Jr is a talented enough fighter though I think he is a cut above the likes of Vinny and Lacy but he hasn't fought a top tier fighter since his loss to BJS and he did get schooled for a good portion of that fight he only got into it when Saunders tried to fight Eubank at his own game.

I'm not sure what will happen, If Eubank is serious about fighting the best he might get beaten bad by the likes of Ramirez but there isn't many really top notch level fighters at 168lbs so he could be safe.

I didn't include him or the many others because they weren't hyped fighters - so they get a pass.

Which legends of the past did it pave the way for?

The man faced nearly everyone there was to face at the time besides Oscar. Hung with Sweet Pea. Embarrassed Vinny Paz for the first time in that guy's career. Took 0's from quite a few cats. Won a title in every letter org besides WBO. Fought and knocked out twice as much as Sweet Pea who everyone drools over.

                Yeah, he's a legend.

                Floyd Sr? No.
                Jeff? No.

                Uncle Roger? Yes.

How did the IBO pave the way for Floyd Mayweather? He'd already won the WBC title in three weight classes and when he won the IBO title, it was just tacked on with the IBF belt. He won the IBA title that night as well. Does that mean the IBA paved the way for Floyd Mayweather?

Your first example is so ridiculous that I'm not even going to waste my time debunking the rest of your list.

The IBO title marked his move to welterweight, which paralleled his most lucrative fights.

                    That's why.
