Comments Thread For: McGregor Feels Ali Act Can Prevent UFC Blocking Mayweather Deal

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Floyd Mayweather Jr. says facing UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing ring "can happen" and is something that would "give the fans what they want to see." In a question-and-answer session Saturday in England, McGregor said he plans to put his UFC career on hold to pursue boxing and a bout with Mayweather, who hasn't fought since September 2015.

conor is slow and will get popped every second. dana wont let him fight around the UFC, dana knows he would be missing out on a lot of money and he wants to get paid. dana wants to offer both floyd and conor 25 million a piece but dana prob wants to pocket the remaining 250 million.

that is exactly what I said yesterday

Mayweather/McGregor need to crunch the numbers and then make White a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

White can either make millions, for doing nothing..... or he can make nothing, and kill his relationship with McGregor.

that fight completely depends on his offer, and that completely depends on..... Floyd Mayweather

This can potentially be the biggest money making mismatch in the history of sports.

that is what Floyd deserves to do

he is after all, the only boxer in question and the main attraction

Conor is a great asset for the UFC, but they will not bend for him or anyone else. Don't know how serious any of this us, but Conor will waste a lot of energy, time, and money if he tries to take them on.

Dana doesn't want this fight to happen - period. Losing in embarrassing fashion hurts McGregor's reputation, which with the lose of Rousey, is basically the last Triple A bankable name in the UFC Brand. Now don't get me wrong, the UFC brand is probably the most valuable company brand in the fighting world (better than GBP, TR, or Mayweather) - because they have proven time and again, their fans will tune in at respectable numbers for whoever is promoted. Boxing lives and dies on the shoulders of a select few. So I'm not suggesting that UFC is going to shrivel and die without Connor. But they still don't want to see the goose laying golden eggs get slaughtered on the alter of boxing.

At the end of the day, if Dana and the UFC think they have closed the Ali Act loophole, than I'm inclined to believe them. They have a proven track record of not only winning law suits, but scrubbing certain fighters from their history on a whim to prove a point that no one fighter is bigger than the UFC Brand...and I doubt McGregor is the one who's going to bring the promotion titan to their knees.

I understand the general uninformed public getting excited about this, but for anyone on a boxing forum like this to seriously wish for this bull**** to actually happen is insane.

No commission should approve McGregor to fight anyone who is at a championship level. If he wants to box, he should start off against a tough mexican kid with a record of 4-6-1. This is embarrassing all around.
