Comments Thread For: Gerald Washington Steps In to Fight Deontay Wilder on February 25

Gerald Washington has accepted a figurative and literal tall order on short notice.
Sources have informed BoxingScene.com that the unbeaten Washington has agreed to challenge WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder on February 25 in Birmingham, Alabama. Washington has replaced Poland's Andrzej Wawrzyk as Wilder's opponent in a fight FOX will broadcast because Wawrzyk tested positive recently for an undisclosed performance-enhancing drug.
An official announcement from Premier Boxing Champions on the Wilder-Washington fight is imminent.

It's an improvement from the other guy so I can't fault Wilder for this selection. He'll have to work a bit harder for this victory at least.

I don't rate Washington but he's better than the Polish guy they were originally bringing in. Could be a fun short fight. The article has Washington an inch shorter than Wilder, to my eye he looks bigger than 6'6 but I guess we'll see at the press conference.

Oh well, at least he's better than Wawrzyk.

Mansour got robbed against this guy, but I'd say this is an excellent opponent for a last minute stand in.

On that note, I'd like to see Mansour get a shot against against Parker or Wilder if he beats Kauffman.

yep,I guess he is better.he's not a puncher but boxes pretty well.he needs to be more aggressive against wilder than he was against mansour.movement and defense won't win him the fight.good luck to him!
