I completely understand the business aspect of the fight and don't blame them for doing it, but it's a bull**** fight in sporting terms.

It will be 50-0 with a huge asterisk for me.

It would look like jones opponent a couple fights ago saying 'debut' on boxrec these type of things should be sanctioned as exhibition only.

That's funny...if he did somehow lose, all the same people saying it was for #50 would suddenly be saying it doesn't count.

I don't see how it gets sanctioned as anything other than an exhibition if everything else gets agreed to by the fighters & everything gets okay'd or bypassed with the UFC. You got a guy who's 49-0 who's considered among the best of this era even if they hate him more often than not who's won titles in 5 weight divisions vs a guy who's never had a pro boxing match. Plus I've never seen conclusive information he had a amateur fight at all despite rumors of an amateur boxing career & if he did it was at the non-senior level over a decade ago.

And then there is the issue that Floyd only fights in Vegas at the MGM & may have a contract that extends to his 50th fight to keep fighting there and Conor only has a license to fight in California & is actually unable to fight in Vegas right now due to a 6 digit fine he has that he refuses to pay. And Vegas would never sanction this as a legit fight that would get Floyd to 50-0. They wouldn't even let Andre Ward fight some top twenty guy last year iirc & they deny fights all the time these days.

I mainly think there are too many issues for this fight to actually get done & even further issues in getting it to the point of being a non-exhibition so nah I don't see this fight counting for Floyd anymore than Ali's fight with Anoki counts on his record & it likely only has a negative impact on Floyd's legacy much like the Anoki fight did for Ali. Although in both counts I suspect the end goal had little to do with legacy for Ali or Floyd & was more about their bank accounts & Floyd's bank account is gonna look sexier after this "fight" if it does happen is all I can legit say at this point cuz the casual combat sports fans will eat this up.

what kind of ******ed question is that? ofcourse it will, an official fight goes on your official record, simple as that.

it doesnt change anything of significance, its just a number. if he had another journeyman or bum on his ledger before ever fighting for his first title he would be at 50 right now and it wouldnt make him any better or worse.

edit: this is all in theory provided they come to terms (which i doubt) and sanctioned (which i doubt even more). at the end of the day the fight aint happening. but if somehow that ****show went down it would naturally go on his record.

Floyd himself has already stated that it's entertainment so I don't know why anyone else would consider it a legitimate boxing match. I don't and I definitely won't pay to see it.

Some will accept it and some won't. I won't accept it because Conor isn't a pro boxer. Every one of Marciano's fights was with a pro boxer. About the only way Floyd could lose would be to trip on the way to the ring and injure himself or something like that. There is zero chance Conor could outfight Mayweather and beat him wearing boxing gloves. I would be more likely to count it as a real win if it happened at the start of Mayweather's pro career. Mayweather beating a non boxer as a veteran champion shouldn't count as a record breaking win any more than his wrestling match with Big Show. I always thought the 50 and 0 and then retire record wasn't that important anyway. Chavez went something like 80 and 0 and would have smashed the hell out of that record if he had retired then. The only reason he didn't break it was because he kept fighting past his prime.

Numbers are merely important, why w'd he need to be 50-0 rather than 49-0? just because 50 looks cool because it's 5 time 10?
What makes sense is who you fight and your performance. Beating McGregor will mean nothing in the history books but it's the best bussiness move he can make: least risks, highest amount of money.
