  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: ITV PPV Idea is Likely Delusion and Greed From Eubank Sr.

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom strongly feels that ITV is making a big mistake by showcasing the upcoming return of Chris Eubank Jr. as a pay-per-view event. Eubank will challenge Renold Quinlan for the IBO super middleweight title on February 4th in London. Hearn believes father and trainer Chris Eubank Sr. is brains behind the idea of turning the Quilnan fight into a pay-per-view bout. In recent years, Hearn has done his fair share of pay-per-views and he predicts a complete flop.

I wouldn't say it would flop and you can quote me on that. He's been working social media, been on prime time breakfast TV and been on radio. I don't see many Boxers doing that now a days.

Eubank is in the last chance saloon as far as landing a decent TV deal.

He has burnt bridges with SKY and Boxnation so he really believes ITV is going to make him the same sort of £££ it did when he was fighting in the 1990's.

Back in the 1990's ITV was the only real channel that pushed boxing really hard - so Eubank had a monopoly on the viewing market. I can't understand why Eubank just doesn't make the fight free on terrestrial ITV just to enhance his son's profile to a much wider market - aim for longer money once his son eventually gets a GENUINE World Title shot.

Its comes across a desperate gamble to try and make a few £££ off a crappy PPV card, hoping that his 'name' will bring in the numbers.

I can't see this happening to be honest, but you can never underestimate the gullibility of the UK Public either...

Can't be mad at Sr. he's refusing to allow promoters to push jr. into a corner. It might not be the smartest idea but he's attempting to maximizing jr as an elite ppv attraction by creating this illusion.

Pretty much this is my feel for this whole Eubank thing. Idk enough about the UK PPV scene to know much about how this will go, but I know Senior is trying to maximize his son's opportunities & money in a brutal sport which I can't really fault too much.

People LOVVVVVVVE to sh^t on boxers over promoters, alphabet groups or networks or anyone else despite promoters, alphabet groups & networks being far bigger problems in preventing positive changes in the sport than boxers, but the reality is boxers got the shortest lifespan in the sport of any entity we discuss & they live or die with their decisions even more so than anyone else as well so I respect boxers when they make decisions for their own cause even if sometimes they don't work out best for them. And whatever you can say negatively about the Eubank's they seem to be ready, willing & able to make their own decisions & live with the results regardless if they turn out good or bad.

Even if they made £10,000 it is a bonus for them.

I agree with Hearn at 100/1 on for Jr. to win this is a ridiculous idea.As said in a prevoius post this should go out on ITV1 to build suport for Jr.Instead through lack of any vision Sr. is going for the smash and grab. His stupity last year cost Jr. around £5 million so maybe he's trying to claw a little of that back but it will be just that .....a little.

When Hearn talks about having to up his game in the climate of increased competition , himself putting a fight on which is 8/1 on in favour of Haye is NOT PPV worthy.Everyone knows Tony's had a decent run but has NEVER fought at heavyweight and was knocked out at 12.7lbs..David talks the talk but don't want to walk. There is a long list of top HEAVYWEIGHT contenders out there that David should be in against not a chinny cruiser(sorry Tony). The frightening thing here is Hearn ******ly classes this as a 'big, big fight'

Who ever at ITV sport thinks this is a good idea needs sacking , it's Not good for ITV and more importantly it's NOT good for boxing .Don't be fooled Jr. is priced at 100/1 on for good reason he's fighting a 12 fight novice.
