I've only seen him fight twice, from my estimation, I'd say, not very?
How good is Valuev?

Valuev is awful.
I wouldn't say he's worse than Ruiz, but they're in the same **** league.
For a man his size he does not maximize his strength and only has a jab advantage on most because of that immense size and range.
Wladimir Klitschko pretty much said that he wouldn't even fight him because he's a joke and I would agree with that assessment.Comment

Valuev's jab is actually not THAT bad, he'd be jabbing Byrd all night long and could UD. Valuev has slim to none chance to KO/TKO Byrd.Originally posted by RunWithKnivesIt's been proven in the past, the only way to beat Byrd is to let your hands go. There is no other way.
I've never seen Valuev piece together accurate combinations on his opponents and set up power shots.Comment

Yeah and that makes sense man.Originally posted by CastillofanWladimir Klitschko pretty much said that he wouldn't even fight him because he's a joke and I would agree with that assessment.
That's the equivalent of Butterbean sending a public message to Mike Tyson....saying he'd beat him in a 4 round fight.
Saying exactly: "mike's too ****** to fight me"
If you remember that.

good question
It's really hard to say how good Valuev is since he's so much bigger than other world class heavyweights, and nobody's beaten him yet (officially anyway). Unless you think that John Ruiz and Larry Donald each have a style that gives Valuev trouble, Valuev's inability to dominate those 2 guys suggests that he's far from being a great fighter. Larry Donald was somewhat better several years ago than he is today, and he was dominated in convincing fashion by :
Rid**** Bowe (1994)
Kirk Johnson (2001) (closer than the Bowe fight)
Vitaly Klitschko (2002) (Donald's only loss by ko or tko)
Hence there's reason to believe that a prime Rid**** Bowe was much better than Valuev, and Vitaly Klitschko was better too.
John Ruiz's jab and clinch style is trouble for many heavyweights but he got clearly outpointed by Roy Jones and a fat, flabby James Toney, so Ruiz is nowhere close to being a great fighter even if you tolerate all his clinching.
Hence my take on Valuev is that he's very lucky to still be undefeated, and won't remain that way for much longer unless his manager ducks the best heavyweights around, such as Wladimir Klitschko, Liakhovich, Brock, Sam Peter and Rahman.Comment

Listen, whether you believe in him or not, Klitschko is being pegged by the masses to become THE MAN (God forbid).
With that in mind, he needs to busy himself with creating a legacy by beating Rahman at least and taking on all of the meaningful challengers out there. If you think Valuev is a worthwhile outing then so be it but I think a fight with Valuev for Klitschko is a pointless exercise.Comment

I've only seen the Ruiz fight, so I can't really be a good judge of his ability, but he did well in that fight and made that jab workComment

This is exactly my point. With the current crop of heavyweights, no one is as vulnerable as people say. I learned after picking Kirk Johnson, Andrew Golata, Fres Oquendo, and Rahman to beat Ruiz that you can't say that they are gonna get blown out easy. None of the current heavyweights eminate an aura of greatness like they did in yesteryear. While most of these heavyweights would be gone in a round and a half when there was one champion and his name was either Louis or Ali, guys like Klitschko and Brewster hardly ilicit the kind of worthiness and dominance that the aforementioned greats harbor. (Damn that was a long sentence, let me take a breath, OK I'm ready). So Valuev may wind up successfully defending his title a few times before relinquishing the title to another contender in a year or 2.Originally posted by DiegoFuegoI've only seen the Ruiz fight, so I can't really be a good judge of his ability, but he did well in that fight and made that jab workComment
