How good is Valuev?

i agree with the "big" part. he actually has surprising skills for someone his size, but his skills are no where near even a b class fighter's. as i've said before, larry donald already 'unofficially' beat him. his chin hasn't really been tested yet, so one can only guess as to how well he holds up to a few solid punches from somebody who can really punch.Comment

Valuev IMO is an ok boxer and not because he has good skills but more because he makes his height and weight work for him. Besides the size thing and alittle bit of skill there's not that much moreComment

i would rate him a 5 out of 10 in pure boxing ability, but the man has sheer size on his side most opponents (all) opponents are smaller than him so if he works behind his massive jab he will be hard to get to, but if he didn't have size he would be a mid journeymen at bestComment

If james toney was a little taller and a little more serious about his trainin id love to see that fight, toney would still make this guy miss all night but he would lay on toney n make it a very boring fight, i dont really see anyone in the top ten gettin past him bcos he is so big, hopefully someone will tho, id love to fight himComment

The 2006 Ring Magazine Boxing Almanac lists these attributes for Nicolay Valuev.
Strengths: Size and strength; awkwardness; durability; friendly officiating in Germany
Weaknesses: Ugly, plodding style; defense; lack of one-punch kayo power
Prognosis: Short title reign for freakish curiosity once exposed against credible opposition outside of Germany.Comment
