You do not understand. Screening by way of QUEST vs GCMS is not the same. So whatever you are reading is mixing you up!

SRMTL is using GCMS. This can be used in various ways. The first level of analysis can find what they are looking for and able to get the concentration levels. If it comes back positive then they will use the GCMS and use more rigorous, extensive and time consuming methods to confirm the initial screening's findings.

So to say, the screening results can come back with a positive or negative result. If its negative, then they STOP as SMRTL indicates.

If the screening result comes back with a presumed positive test then they take the time to do a confirmation test on another aliquot from the urine sample. Confirmation is to confirm their initial presumed positive findings. With a NEGATIVE result they do not ..... there may be exceptions to this when its a borderline threshold case ... but that was not the case for Diaz.
