Comments Thread For: Thurman Hopes He and Garcia Can Draw 8 Million Viewers on CBS

NEW YORK The last time Keith Thurman fought on CBS, nearly four million viewers watched his battle with Shawn Porter at one point. Thurman hopes he and Danny Garcia can draw twice as many viewers for their welterweight championship unification fight March 4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Thurman-Garcia fight is one of the most highly anticipated fights on the 2017 boxing calendar, yet different from the rest in that it won't even cost a premium-cable subscription to watch it.

It will be sad if Spence-Bundu does better than Garcia-Thurman

It will Spence got that rating only because it was sandwiched in the middle of all day Olympics coverage. Just like local news coverage got year high ratings in the same time slots in between or directly after Olympics. Spence fight before this against a better more known opponent did only 1.24 ratings.

The time slot. That's why I keep saying they need to have these fights on Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon after football season is over. People are hanging out on Saturday nights. Especially when the weather gets warm. The fights they did on Saturday afternoon did good numbers. That's when you catch people flipping thru the channel. But Sunday afternoon would be best

CBS canceled PBC on afternoon because the ratings weren't good. But they also didn't put their marquee names during those time slots. Would be weird seeing top boxing fights early on a Sunday but I think that is better then what they have been trying which ain't working.

The only way this fight gets 8mill is if they put it on half-time during the superbowl.

There's a big UFC card that same night, I'll be sure to tell the bar to put one of the tv's onto the fight, otherwise they won't even know about it.
