But this Lemieux - Stevens fights was made to set up the September fight - Oscar would love an in house September promotion. GGG is out in the cold still. Unless Chavez wins. If Chavez wins - right there is GGG's September opponent.

    agree with both points

so, maybe Canelo will pass on the Cotto rematch ?

otherwise, surely he would fight Cotto at 154 before making the move to middleweight for Chavez/etc?

I can't see Canelo losing much weight - even for Cotto - after beefing up for Jnr..... maybe they will pass on that fight

Wasnt this the plan anyway? To let Canelo's body grow comfortably, while getting some work done (money) and getting better at his craft. This is why the triple g boys want to fight him now, while he's still growing or filling out to this weight. And when he comes in to the fight with triple g, he will weigh about 185 (khan) and be able to take triple g's punch and dish out his own.
Canelo will be the undisputed face of boxing.

The longer they leave it the better Canelo chances goes up, unfortunately for GGG he is a businessman first.

forgetting that Golovkin/Canelo argument for a sec.....

..... I said it all along, the issue really was the weight

weight matters, that 5lbs was likely the winning or losing of that fight

I always said..... at 155, Canelo beats Golovkin..... simply because they are full-of-**** about that 154-168 stuff..... making 155 would kill Golovkin, he would lose on the scales..... and 155 is Canelo-territory, the kid is a beast

          but at 160, I favored Golovkin..... 160 is Golovkin-territory

          the weight mattered

Team Golovkin shat the bed when it came to making that fight the first time around..... and when Golovkin refused to fight Canelo at 155, he determined his own fate..... now he will have to wait until Canelo is ready, and now he will be fighting a fully fledged middleweight

I agree with the weight being an issue and 155 being the big hurdle. However Golovkin had every right to refuse the catch-weight as he was the mandatory challenger.
Am pretty sure another issue would be the re-hydration clause for the IBF title (10% i think) on fight night I think. Canelo may of come up short if that was the case.

I would pick any of the top 6 guys at middleweight to beat Chavez Jr at 164. He is completely done. He will use drugs to make the weight and look shambolic in the ring.

Reading this, anybody who didn't know Canelo would think you were talking about an 18 yo kid with 10 fights.

Mate, this guy is 26 yo, he's had 50 pro fights and won 4 world titles in 2 weight divisions. If he isn't ready for GGG now he never will be.

He and his team are not avoiding Golovkin till Canelo grows up, they're avoiding him till GGG grows old. Big difference.
