That was in 2012, his stock has plummeted dramatically since then. You are loony if you think this gets anywhere near a million. Their target should be about 500k at best.
Nothing would surprise me at this point. Ward/Kov proved that hardcore fans are truly a small population. Chavez/Alvarez consists of two well known Mexican fighters, on a Mexican holiday. That's a strong recipe for casual PPV buys.
The fight has zero relevance in the sport. So, it will be fascinating to see what kind of numbers it pulls compared to the Ward/Kov fight, which was the most relevant fight in years.
In the face of boxing PPVs underperforming as a whole, I'll take a guess and say $450k. Which I think would be a hell of a lot considering that Chavez hasn't accomplished anything since beating Andy Lee 5 years ago.
This fight will sell. Casual fans know both these guys, there is real bad blood no fake fight talk needed they hate each other and it goes back years. Chavez Sr will be rolled out to sell the fight his rivalry with canelo's promoter Oscar will be a story line. Hell the countdown is on until Jr says he is going to avenge his daddy in this fight bringing up Oscar's epic beat downs of his daddy and making him quit on his stool. Might as well bill this fight De la hoya vs Chavez 3. While most assume canelo will win their styles guarantees action until chavez quits or gets knocked out. And chavez is a live dog with that size he is one lucky punch away from pulling the upset. It sells more then the khan fight but slightly less then the cotto fight.
