Comments Thread For: Adonis Stevenson: Ward-Kovalev Rematch Will Have Same Result!

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis "Superman" Stevenson (28-1) was a very interested observer of Andre Ward's narrow November points victory over Sergey Kovalev. The fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and Ward was the victor on all three scorecards by the tally of 114-113.

Finally something Stevenson says that I more or less agree with. I mean I'd hardly say Kovalev doesn't have a chance to better his performance vs Ward in a do over, but in general the smart money is on the smart & strategic boxer who figured out his opponent later in the fight keeping that knowledge & improving on it in a rematch.

Kovalev has to knock him out or it will be Robbery in 12 for Ward

Stevenson has been going hard on Kov for the last few days. Is this fight brewing or what?

                that inside work.

Kovalev didn't know what to do in the trenches so he used the headlock to avoid exchanges at close range. if Kovalev engages Ward on the inside he gets dropped and humiliated. his game is long range, if he can't catch you at the end of his punches he's not effective.

it took a while for Ward to adapt to the reach advantage but he did in the late rounds..he'll take this experience in the rematch and do better. he now knows he can take Kovalev's punches and that he isn't no damn boogeyman. mentally Ward has the edge in a rematch.

expect a more convincing Ward victory.

JDJ kept on telling kovalev he was winning the second half of the fight too... so kovalev stepped hard off the gas.

I don't know whether Kov can develop an inside game or not, but he definitely lost that battle against Ward in the first fight. Sure, Kov was able to push Ward around. He is the bigger guy, so that shouldn't be surprising, but the exchamges om the inside favor Ward. Kov works best at a distance which is part of the reason why Kov wasn't necessarily trying to cut off the ring. I somewhat agree that the rematch will be similar with Ward trying tk find a way to the inside and Kov trying to keep Ward at the end of his punches. Whoever is more successful will win. I lean Ward.
