Who has a better resume, Sugar Ray Leonard or Floyd Mayweather?

  • Well one was getting beat by Camacho and KO'd by Norris and the other was p4p king and schooling his opposition at an even older age. I guess 4 wins overshadow everything else for certain fighters though... I thought resume was the whole thing. Leonard also got beat by a smaller fighter in his prime but since it was Duran and he avenged it it somehow gets overlooked. I would take Floyd's career, money, and health over Leonard's... which one would you rather have?

duran (1l), hearns, (shot) hagler and (hyped) benitez. these 4 names are supposed to equal 10000000 names. who else is there

may has more mid level wins than srl and spent more time at the top.

Hearns went on to become light middleweight champ, middleweight champion, super middleweight champ and two time light heavyweight champion. Not sure where you get the idea he was shot when Leonard beat him. Even Benitez went on to upset Hope(reigning Jr. middle champ) and defended the title beating Duran. Those mentioned names put Leonard at another level, even if some refuse to see it. There were others though, Kalule was an undefeated champion, Andy Price at the time Leonard fought him, was the only fighter that had victories over both current world champions at the time, Palomino and Cuevas. Leonard though still young, took him out in one round.

hagler was shot. those other names are just fillers. its not so much a one sided thread if an honest fight fan were to look closer.

I won't argue that Hagler was at the end. He however was undisputed champion and at the top of the p4p rankings at the time. Leonard was a tremendous underdog. Leonard was inactive for quite awhile and shown nothing that would suggest he would last with a beast like Hagler. Imagine if Mayweather came back after two years inactivity and pulled off the upset against Golovkin after Golovkin unified every title. That is the best way of creating the picture so newer fans could understand the achievement.

Again, yeah as I stated Hagler was at the end. More so because the Leonard fight and the fact he never fought again. Mugabi did not make Hagler look great but many of us old timers consider that Mugabi was actually a beast that at the time was someone to be reckoned with. The fight that suggested that Leonard had a chance was how Duran did against Marvin. It is my opinion that Duran was underrated. Especially back then.

When Leonard suffered a detached retina he retired, He made a return after a layoff(two years) and fought Howard(Kevin). He did not good and stated the Hagler fight will never happen. Three years later, he pulled off a tremendous comeback, regardless if some consider controversial, over a top fighter in the world. For that and other reasons as stated, comparisons like this are unfair. If fans want to compare Mayweather they should chose other fighters than Leonard, Ray Robinson and the like. There are other superb fighters to measure against that bring a better comparison.
