I think it was Smith who withdrew, but no matter. The important thing is that there will be Olympic style testing for the Alvarez/Chavez fight

According to separate links on VADA’s website, the indication is that it was Smith (23-0-1, 13KOs) who formally withdrew from the program three weeks out from the third defense of the title he claimed last October. - See more at: http://www.boxingscene.com/canelo-sm....EcBzOoCa.dpuf

Because he was being tested randomly already by UKAD. Why did Canelo withdraw?

Alvarez just comfortably made 154lbs for his most recent fight; there's nothing that would compel him to have to fight at 160lbs.

Alvarez wanted the fight with Chavez Jr, so he and his camp went into the talks to see a weight that would work and money that would work; to hear Golden Boy tell it, Alvarez (a fighter who just made 154lbs) was comfortable with offering 164lbs, with the final push getting the weight to 164.5lbs for the fight, which Chavez Jr and his camp agreed to.

Alvarez fought Miguel Cotto (who happened to have a middleweight belt that's respected in Mexico) at 155lbs, and made it absolutely clear that he had no intent to fight at 160lbs in the near future.

With Golovkin and his camp insisting that Alvarez's trinket would inherently mean that the fight would be at 160lbs, Alvarez gave up the trinket and made it clear that he still wanted to kick Golovkin's ass.

With a 154lb belt around his waist, and no real interest in Golovkin's trinkets, you have a junior middleweight fighter and a middleweight fighter looking for terms for the fight; after talking all that ****, Golovkin and his camp locked in on only actually being willing to go down in weight for Floyd Mayweather, so Alvarez made them an offer to make the fight; here's the full 160lbs, here's $15m, and here's the date of September 2017.

Golovkin and his camp sat on the offer, mistakenly thinking that the negotiations were now beginning (when the stage is basically set for the real likelihood, that Golovkin, as an option, gets move back into 2018, with Chavez Jr, Cotto if he wins, and Billy Joe Saunders as viable options for September 2017

Canelo took the Cotto fight from GGG. Took his "dream fight" with Chavez. And trust if GGG still won't sign and make a career payday 15m he will steal his fight with Saunders next. Funny how Canelo has no problem making fights with all these rival promoters and fighters. Has literally made every fight fans have asked him except GGG's difficult azzz. while GGG literally has problems making a fight with ANYONE. Not Ward, not Froch, not Canelo, not Saunders, not Eubank ect ect with everyone of them calling out GGG for not budging in negotiations to make a fight reality. But sure it's Canelo who is the problem SMH

I'm not surprised that my mocking you went over your head.

You claim to be a fan of boxing and at the same time celebrate the fact that a name was "stolen" from Golovkin. Then you go to criticize GGG for not fighting names...

I guess it'd be more surprising if you weren't so obviously biased.

Why? Chavez jr already lost to Martinez who was 13 pounds lighter and was TKOed by a drained Fonfara... how is it more pathetic than Canelo wanting to fight him now?

any knowledge boxing fan knows offering 15 mil to Ggg is a way to duck and save face...like Floyd initially offering 40mil to PAC. Canelo' s statement of " I am not a MW and need to build my body up to 160" was a direct quote frm him trying to justify delaying the GGG fight til 2017. Now is obvious Bs!!

Golden Boy put the T-Mobile arena on hold but made sure to say they are still deciding on Cowboy Stadium. Meaning Oscar is creating a bidding war for the venu whoever comes with the largest check will get the fight. Cowboy Stadium holds far more seats but Vegas counters that by having ticket prices in the thousands for all those high rollers. Atmosphere would be much better at cowboy stadium will get more real fight fans with more affordable tickets instead of celebs, high rollers and execs that scoop up most of the Vegas tickets. You never know with Jerry Jones he might come with some crazy offer but my gut says Vegas will pay more for it so it goes to T-Mobile.
