I get your point, and agree to some extent, but FYI Fernando Vargas isn't Mexican. Born and bred in the USA. Mexican Americans are not carbon copies of Mexicans, any more than Roy Jones Jr. or Bernard Hopkins are carbon copies of Africans and likely to fight in an "African" style.

that's not entirely true. Yes vargas is Mexican American but he's also a 1st generation Mexican who speaks Spanish and identifies with his mexican roots. You can't compare that to Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins who are 100s of yrs removed from their African roots. Vargas however displayed more of the Mexican pride that's been synonymous with Mexican fighters by constantly chasing the best opposition possible than Canelo has even though Canelo is the "pure mexican" . Canelo talks a good game but I can't recall any Mexican ever giving up a belt in order to fight lesser opposition and make less money doing so.

Vargas, De La Hoya, Bobby Chacon, Carlos Palomino, Johnny Tapia and many other Mexican American boxers fought all comers. I don't mean to belabor the point, but I don't think that warrior mentality is limited to Mexican fighters, but the economics of boxing has changed. In this era fighters of every strip are less interested in "legacy" and more interested in high reward, low risk fights. I don't think Canelo is alone in this, nor do I think that he is afraid of Golovkin. His first instinct is to fight, but with tens of millions of dollars at stake and promoters and networks in the mix it becomes much more complicated.

Canelo has the most delusional fan base of any boxer ever. The guy is impossible to defend. He ducks ggg, he gets suspect decision wins and chooses to fight guys like khan and beefy. Bottom line is he won't give Lara a rematch because Lara isn't a face first idiot like Angulo or Kirkland. He won't face ggg because he knows he'd get ko'd. Too bad the days of Mexicans being Warriors and their fans being hard core are over. That's why guys like Fernando vargas got more respect in some of his losses than Canelo has gotten for any of his wins.

I don't really care if he fights lara again or not, there's only 1 fight I care to see Canelo in and it's vs ggg. All this other nonsense with khan, beefy and Chavez Jr is a boxing disgrace and fans who support that trash or pay ppv for it are part of the problem. That is the reason why Oscar is choosing to avoid any real challenges for Canelo. It's shameful for Canelo and Oscar to go around saying how Canelo is the best fighter in the world but be unwilling to back that up.
