Comments Thread For: Roc Nation President: 50 Percent of Cotto-Kirkland Tickets Sold

NEW YORK Miguel Cotto hasn't fought in Texas since March 2001, but boxing fans there have been receptive to his return. Michael Yormark, Roc Nation's president and chief of branding and strategy, said Wednesday that 50 percent of the tickets available to the Cotto-James Kirkland fight February 25 in Frisco, Texas, have been sold. That would mean roughly 6,000 tickets have been purchased for the event since going on sale December 22, because The Ford Center at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys' training facility, can accommodate at least 12,000 fans for boxing.

      *To secondary salesmen, most likely.

But, PPV aside, this is probably Cotto's best matchup in years. Kirkland, if he can take your punches, will wear you down pretty quickly. We've already seen Cotto worn down by Margarito. Kirkland has Wolfe back, who helps him execute that gameplan. Canelo knocked him out, but Canelo is way bigger than Cotto. Cotto survived 12 with Canelo but Canelo doesn't really press forward to beat you down. Kirkland does. Either Cotto will chin check Kirkland on the way in early in the fight, or Kirkland will be on top of Cotto and wear him down. Kirkland is a very live dog in this if he comes in shape.

I mean, Kirkland is never in bad fights. The return of Anne Wolfe brings huge intrigue. Which Kirkland will show up? How will 36 year old Cotto coming off a layoff and more wear and tear vs Canelo after a long career respond to body shots from an iron fisted guy like Kirkland?

It's an extremely solid action fight between guys who should be ranked lower-top-10 in the division, maybe top 15 in Kirkland's case, where there's a high likelihood of a knockout, and even a decent likelihood of the "star" Cotto being beaten down and knocked out. There is risk and danger here. So I'm excited for this matchup on a pure entertainment, action, and intrigue-level, but I'm just saying, I don't trust Roc Nation at all after Kovalev-Ward where two of their fighters got hometown decisions.

I've never been to Texas but I'm assuming it must be 1 of the most boring places on earth if people are willing to spend days their money on this and Canelo vs Smith. .

a large majority of tickets are usually sold to ticket buying services who resell them. this means that the ticket buying services dont even think this fight is worth a damn if they didn't buy very many

This is good. Less people means I move up from my seat.
